Secrets of His World - Chapter 3
The picture on the side is kind of how I pictured Emily looking.
I'll keep looking for a picture of Damien and Erin.
And yes, I know Erin is like a girls name, but you can also spell the guys name that way lol.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this. It's a little dramatic, but it's part of the story.

"Did you know Erin had a fiance? Damien! Tell me," Emily demanded.

Damien was trying his hardest not to listen to Emily and read his book. He was making Emily furious.

"Fine. I’m going home and I don’t want you to come over until you decide you’re not deaf anymore and want to tell if you knew or not," Emily told him calmly as she gathered her bag off the floor.

She had come straight home and then went to Damien’s house, which was next door. Now she was going home and not going to speak to Damien. He was ignoring her at the moment and pissing her off just as much now as to when she found out Erin had a fiancee.

Damien almost never made Emily mad. When he did manage to do it she would get mad enough to rip someone’s head off. Usually Damien avoided making her mad or upset, except for here lately.

For the past few weeks every time Emily had liked someone she would ask Damien to talk to them about her. He would always tell her that none of the guys were interested. That or he would not tell her that they had a girlfriend, or fiancee for that matter. He was really starting to irritate her, even though she had kept it to herself until now.

"Em? Is that you?" her mother called from the kitchen.

"Yeah, mom. It’s me. Where’s Jess?" she called back.

"In here," Jess said from the kitchen.

Emily laid her bags on the stairs and headed toward the kitchen. Her mother and sister Jessica were always the ones she ran to when she and Damien were fighting or something. If she couldn’t tell Damien something then she would tell her mother and sister.

"What’s wrong this time?" Jessica asked as Emily rounded the corner.

"Damien," was all Emily said.

She took a seat in front of the counter by Jess. Her mom was cutting up sausage for dinner and Jess was eating some of it as it was being cut. Emily grabbed a round piece as it rolled toward her.

"What did the kid do this time?" Jess asked as Emily took a bite of the sausage.

"I dunno," she muttered. "Here lately he’s been acting so strange. Every time I ask him to talk to a guy for me he agrees and then gives me some crap about how that guy isn’t interested and then I see the guy the next day and he talks to me like he likes me and says things about Damien talking to him, but not about me. They all say he just asked if they were single or not or whatever and some of them he doesn’t say anything about and when I talk to them - because I give up on Damien - they have a girlfriend or something."

"Wow. It sounds like someone has some problems."

"Yeah. And then I liked his cousin Erin and Damien knew it. He said he would talk to Erin for me and everything. Then, I get in class today and Erin want’s to see me after class, so I stayed. Yep, he introduced me to his fiancee. Wonderful isn’t it?" Emily said, irritated again.

"Abso-positive-freaking-lutely. Erin Pennet, right? I hate that stupid son of a…" Jess trailed off. She was shaking her head when Emily looked at her. Jess flushed and then looked away.

"Well, dear. It seems to me like Damien has feelings for you after all," Emily’s mom said.

"Yeah, right. And I’m the queen of England," Jess muttered.

"Seriously, mom? He’s gay. He doesn’t have feelings for me like you think. He likes guys," Emily said.

Her mom looked at her doubtfully. She had never believed the whole Damien being gay thing, but had never said anything about it. She was hesitant to let Damien stay the night, too, until he proved he was gay by introducing her to his boyfriend. Too bad that boyfriend is gone now, Emily thought.

She had liked Damien’s last boyfriend. He was nice and funny and charming. He was very suitable for Damien and Emily had approved. The same day Damien asked if she approved and she had said yes, Damien had dumped him.

Emily and Damien hardly ever fought. When they did, though, they sounded like a married couple. Everyone who was around when they fought would say so. Their fights were never serious ones; they always made up after a couple hours.

"Even if he does have feelings for me, which I doubt he does, why would he do this stuff to me? There’s no point. I’m in love with the guy and he more than likely knows that," Emily said after a moment of silence.

"Well. Everyone does stupid things when they’re in love? I don’t know. I was just guessing," Jess told her.

"Mom? A little help here," Emily cried.

"What? You don’t like my idea?" Jess said, offended.

"Not when you’re being stupid, I don’t. I’d rather hear this stuff from someone who’s been there and done that. Not someone who thinks lust and love are the same thing."

"Oh, yeah? Well why don’t you just take all your stupid little questions and shove them right up--"

"Whoa! Calm down girls, and Jess don’t you even think about saying that to your sister," Emily’s mom said, cutting Jess off.

"Thank you," Emily told her mother.

"Why does everyone always defend her?!" Jess exclaimed.

She pushed her seat back abruptly, making it fall over. Jess stamped out of the room leaving her mother and Emily wide-eyed and silent. Emily reached down and picked up Jess’s chair.

"What’s wrong with her these days? She’s so… grumpy," Emily concluded, breaking the silence.

Rachel shook her head and said, "I don’t know, sweetie. She’s been like that for about four weeks now. She gets so upset over the littlest things."

"Mom, do you think maybe you could give me some money? I told Erin I’d take Beth, his fiancee, out to go shopping and show her around and stuff. And I saw this dress the other day that would look good on me at prom."

"Sure. When do you need it?" Rachel asked.

"Tonight sometime. I’m showing her around tomorrow, right after school."

"Alright. I’ll have you some money tonight before you go to bed."

"Thanks mom, you’re the greatest," Emily told her.

She got up and kissed her mom on the cheek and then left for her room. She was walking up the stairs when she heard the crying coming from the first room at the top of the stairs. She stopped by the door and peeked inside.

Jess was setting in the floor leaning against the foot of her bed. Emily knocked and walked in to sit beside her. When jess didn’t move, Emily put an arm around her.

"What’s wrong?" Emily whispered.

"Nothing! Just leave me alone," Jess sobbed.

"Jess… I’m your sister and I love you. I don’t want to hurt you, I want to help you. I can’t do that, though, if you don’t tell me what’s wrong."

"You really want to know what’s wrong?" Jess asked angrily.

"Yes." Emily raised an eyebrow at her.

Jess got up and walked over to her desk. She grabbed a plastic bag and held it up for Emily to see. Inside of the bag was a little white stick looking thing. Emily got up slowly and walked over to her.

"Go ahead, look at it closer," Jess insisted.

Emily took the bag from her and flipped it over and over. She stared at it for a minute. Jess walked over to her bedside table and pulled out a box of tissues to hand to Emily. She hadn’t even noticed she was crying.

"You’re… I’m going to be an… I…" Emily tried getting out a whole sentence, but couldn’t.

"Yes. I’m pregnant. You’re going to be an aunt."

"That’s why you’re so moody," Emily said, realizing.

"Yep. Sucks, I know."

"But who… Who’s the dad?" Emily whispered.

"Ha-ha. A lying, back stabbing, jerk with a fiancee he never told me about. Erin Pennet. I swear, if I ever run into him again I’ll rip his balls off," Jess growled.

"Wait. Erin Pennet? My Lit. teacher? The one I was talking about earlier? Damien’s cousin?" Emily asked incredulously.

"Yes. Erin Pennet. With the fiancee from Ireland. The one he never told me about. Well, at least not until after we had slept together. He was drunk and I was… not so drunk. But he was all over me. And he’s hot. I decided, yeah, just this once I would take advantage of a drunk guy, but only because Erin is fiiiine as hell. Never again will I do that though. And, so, now I‘m pregnant with his baby"

"Oh, god. I feel sick. I think I might throw up."

"You’re so dramatic. I don’t see how people stand you," Jess said.

"At least I’m not a whore that runs off and gets pregnant!" Emily retorted.

Jess raised her hand as if to slap Emily. Slowly, she lowered her arm. Emily watched as a tear rolled down her face.

"Get out," Jess breathed.

"Fine."

Emily walked to the door and then turned around. She threw the bag with the pregnancy test on the floor by Jess. She started to walk out the door when Jessica grabbed her by the arm.

"Don’t tell mom, please," she half-begged, almost sounding threatening.

"I’m not. You’re the stupid one that got pregnant. It’s your job to tell her, not mine," she said without looking back.

Jess let go of her arm and she stalked off to her room. When Emily was inside she slammed the door shut and slid down to the floor. She sobbed for a few minutes.

Most of the sobbing was for Damien, but some of it was for Jess, too. Even if Damien was lying to her about things or something he would have been at her house by now and they would be making up. It had been an hour since they last talked.

She got off the floor and changed into a pair of old pajama pants and a t-shirt. She decided Damien and her friendship wasn’t worth fighting over guys for. She was going to go to his house and apologize.

Emily walked next door to the Monroe house. She knocked on the door, hoping Damien would answer. She was disappointed when his father, James, answered the door.

"Emily," he said, nodding to her.

"Hello Mr. Monroe. Is Damien home?" she asked.

"I’ve told you time and time again to call me James, Emily. And no he isn’t he left a while ago for his date," James said excitedly.

Emily narrowed her eyes at him. He never liked it when his son went out on dates because they were with guys. James didn’t approve of Damien being gay.

"A date with who?"

"A very lovely young lady named Clarissa. She’s very beautiful. Seems the kid’s gone straight, finally. Didn’t you know?" he asked when he saw the look on her face.

Emily had turned pale white and was trying her hardest not to choke on air. Damien has a date? With a girl? her mind kept repeating. She didn’t say anything to James, but she shook her head and turned to go home.

She walked slowly to her house and kept tripping. She didn’t know why it hurt her to know Damien was on a date with a girl. If he really is on a date with a girl then that means he’s gone straight or at least bisexual. Which means she might have a chance with him.

There was just something there, though. Something that kept telling her she should be sad. If Damien liked her and had decided he was bisexual or something then why didn’t he tell her? And when was this date set up?

A thousand different questions ran through her mind. Why was he on a date with a girl? Is he gay or bisexual or straight? Why didn’t he tell his best friend about this date? Why didn’t he ask her for her approval first? And why did he tell her lies and everything about the guys she liked?

So many questions and not enough answers. Emily walked inside and sat on the couch. Her mother was just coming into the living room when she saw Emily.

"Oh my!" she gasped.

She ran over to Emily and sat down. She put an arm around her and rubbed her back.

"What’s wrong? What happened?" Rachel demanded.

"Damien," Emily whispered.

"What about Damien? What did he do?"

"Nothing." Emily leaned away from her mom and looked at her.

"Something," Rachel pressed on.

"He… is on a date. With a girl. Clarissa," Emily sobbed.

"Oh... Honey, it’s okay. There’s no reason to be upset about that. Isn’t is a good thing that he’s on a date with a girl?"

"Yes. But that’s not why I’m upset. I’m upset because he didn’t tell me! He didn’t come to his ’supposed to be’ best friend and tell her."

"Well, maybe he forgot," Rachel said.

She’s defending him, Emily thought angrily. Damien was out on a date that he didn’t tell her about, with a girl even. She suddenly felt exhausted. She pulled away from Rachel and got up.

"I’m going to bed," Emily told Rachel.

"Okay. I left the money on your dresser. Goodnight, sweetie."

Emily walked to her room and slammed the door shut for the second time that day. She crawled into bed and laid there staring at the ceiling. Tomorrow she would talk to Damien, maybe. Tonight she would rest and try not to think about him, Jess, Erin, or even Beth.

She closed her eyes and began to think about other things. Emily had thought about math and history tests when she finally dozed off. Though somewhere in her unconscious mind she kept thinking about tomorrow and what to do and say.
