Damien’s P.O.V.
*
Damien paced back and forth in front of his window. He couldn’t believe he had done that to Emily. How he could have been so mean.
He mentally shook himself. And Jason? Who was Jason?
Damien thought about it for a while. Who Jason could be, and then like a slap in the face he realized. Jason Grove.
Damien didn’t like it at all. Jason Grove was most known in the school for dating a girl, having sex with her, and then dumping her.
Clarissa got up from the couch and stood in front of Damien to stop his pacing.
"Damien! Hello? What’s wrong?" she asked.
"Nothing. Nothing at all. I just need…" To talk to Emily, he told himself silently. "Nothing," he finished.
"Something is bugging you to death. Can’t you just tell me what it is?"
"No. I can’t explain it."
Damien couldn’t explain it. Not even to himself. His stomach was hurting and his chest was aching. The second he realized Jason was who Emily had been talking to at the mall his stomach lurched.
He moved passed Clarissa. Damien needed some fresh air. He walked out to the porch and sat on the steps.
Damien could let Emily go with Jason. He just couldn’t. Jason was going to take advantage of Emily and she doesn’t even see it coming.
She’s still a virgin, for Christ’s sake! Damien’s mind shouted at him.
It was 7:30 p.m. and Damien was still sitting on the porch doing nothing to help Emily. Nothing at all.
He had watched her pull into her drive. She looked excited. So, maybe Jason and her were going out tonight.
That’s it! I’m going over there, Damien told himself.
He leaped off the porch steps and jogged over to Emily’s house. He stood on the porch for a minute deciding whether or not to knock. He raised his hand to knock, finally, when the door creaked open.
"You’re earl--" Emily cut off when she saw Damien.
"I’m sorry. Look, I know I’ve done some bad things to you here lately and everything. I’m sorry for that. I really am. But listen, Em, you can’t go out with Jason. He only wants you for sex," Damien rushed out.
Emily stared at him, bewildered. Damien watched as her face flushed a deep scarlet.
"It… is none of your business what Jason and I do, Damien. And please, my name is Emily, not Em. Now, if that’s all you wanted then I suppose you had better be getting back to your girlfriend," Emily said in a really slow and calm voice.
This time Damien stared at her, bewildered. She means Clare, his mind whispered. Damien almost cracked up at that.
He and Clarissa weren’t dating. She’s his cousin’s fiancée’s sister. He was supposed to be showing her around town because she was new.
"Well. You’re still a virgin Emily Marie Lovett. Jason only wants girls for sex. If you lose your virginity to that douche, much love to you. And just so you know, Clare is Beth’s sister. I was showing her around for Erin and Beth. We aren’t dating," Damien said in a low voice.
He turned and left for his house. Emily did nothing but stare at him. When he was in the house he went straight to his room and to the window.
He opened his window and stared out at the ground. If Emily went with Jason he would have completed stage one of his plan. Then, because he got her to go, he would sleep with her; making stage two complete. And then he would dump her as part of stage three.
Damien couldn’t believe that Emily was so foolish as to not see through Jason. She didn’t know how Jason really was though. Emily wasn’t a big fan of rumors and gossip, so she ignored it when it came her way.
Oh well. Damien sat by his window and stared out. Hoping that when Jason got there Emily would turn him down. All there was to do now was wait.
*
Emily’s P.O.V.
*
After watching Damien enter his house again Emily slid back inside her house. She didn’t know what to think. Damien didn’t want her to go with Jason, that much was clear.
He was worried about her. She knew that. Best friends worry about each other, even if they’re fighting.
Emily knew what she’d do, though. She just had to wait for Jason to get there.
As if on cue, the doorbell rang. Emily turned around, sucked in a breath, and opened the door. Jason was standing there in the same clothes he had on in the mall.
"Evening, beautiful," he greeted her.
"Good evening," she replied.
She grabbed her bag off the floor. She shut and locked her house door and then headed for Jason’s car.
Before she slipped into the seat she looked at Damien’s front door. Then she looked up at the window of his bedroom. He was sitting by the window looking out at her.
She tried to ignore the fact that her body and mind was pulling her toward Damien. She willed herself to get into the car with Jason.
They drove for a while before ending up at a huge house with a very long driveway.
"This is my house," Jason said as he entered through the gate.
They drove up the driveway and parked beside the house. The house was much more beautiful up close. It was a dark shade of peach and had black shutters on all the windows. It almost reminded Emily of an old Victorian house, but somehow newer.
"It’s beautiful," Emily told Jason.
"Yeah. Well, I’ve got dinner set up for us ‘round back. You ready to eat?"
"Yes, sir. I sure am."
Emily smiled at him and got out. She followed Jason all the way through the house to the back yard. When he opened the sliding doors Emily barely stifled a gasp.
It was the most beautiful dinner Emily had ever been to in her life. It was 8 o’clock at night and the sun had already set. Jason had a table in his back yard with an umbrella over it. On the table sat two plates of food, and two glasses full of… wine? And two candles were lit. There was a vase sitting in the middle of the table between the candles with a single red rose in it.
"Oh my gosh," Emily breathed.
"I wanted to do something special for you," Jason told her.
Something inside her warned her not to get too caught up. Her mind kept repeating what Damien had said:
"He only wants you for sex."
"Have a seat," Jason said, taking his own seat.
Emily sat down and pulled her chair closer to the table.
"You know, if I had known I was going to be dining like this then I would have worn a dress or something," Emily said, embarrassed that she wore a regular cotton tee and jeans.
"It’s fine. I’m wearing the almost exact same thing as you are," Jason said with a laugh.
"I see." Emily joined him with the laughter.
They ate dinner together and talked about random things. When dinner was over Jason insisted on giving Emily a tour of his house. She’d accepted.
He had led her upstairs and was showing her the rooms. Her stomach twisted and Damien’s face kept popping up in her mind. His voice kept whispering in her ear.
"…and this is my room," Jason said as he opened the door he was standing at.
When they stepped inside, Emily was amazed. She had thought guys’ rooms would be messy and full of nasty things. Although, Damien’s wasn’t. But he’s supposed to be gay, have a girly sense of things, keep himself as well as his belongings and room clean and neat.
Jason’s room was completely clean. She could have put on a white glove, ran her fingers over everything, and not have one single piece of dirt or dust on it. His room was spotless. It was even organized, right down to every piece of paper and every football trophy.
"Wow. This is really nice. Not what I expected from a guys room," Emily complimented.
"Thanks," Jason said.
He walked over to his bed and sat down. Emily knew that if he wanted sex he wasn’t going to get it. She was going to say no. For one, she’s too young. And two, she wanted to lose her virginity to someone she loved.
"Come. Sit down. Relax," Jason told her.
He patted the bed beside where he sat. Emily walked over and sat down. She felt uncomfortable, but not enough to leave. Yet.
Jason took her hand and brought it to his mouth. He laid a his lips on the palm of Emily’s hand and kissed it ever so gently.
"You’re really beautiful, you know," he whispered onto her wrist.
The kisses continued to the crease in her elbow, to her shoulder, and then up her neck. He kissed her along the jaw line and then on the cheek. Then, very lightly, he brushed his lips on hers.
Emily sat still while he kissed her. She didn’t mind kissing Jason. Emily liked him. But it’s not him she wanted to kiss. It was him she wanted to be sitting with. It was Damien.
She closed her eyes and pictured Damien. His face, his perfect face. His broad, but slender body. His perfect, dark, shaggy hair. His gorgeous mouth. And his amazingly beautiful green eyes.
Without thinking about it Emily reached up and tangled her hands in Jason’s hair. She pulled him to her and they fell back on the bed. She kissed him hungrily. All the while, picturing only Damien in her mind.
Emily was so lost in picturing Damien in her mind that she didn’t even realize what Jason was doing. He was kissing Emily and taking her pants off at the same time. He was starting on her panties when she grabbed his hand.
"I can’t do this," she gasped.
"Why not? You were doing perfect just then," Jason said.
"No. No, no, no. I cannot do this. I can’t have sex with you. I just can’t. I’m sorry."
"Don’t be. You’re not ready and I understand that. Come on, I’ll take you home."
Emily jerked up right and pulled her pants back up. She walked downstairs behind Jason, got in his car, and let him drive her home.
Neither of the two said anything on the way to Emily’s house. All Emily was thinking of was how close she had came to having sex with Jason. Even after she said she would say no.
It was all Damien’s fault, Emily kept telling herself.
If Damien wasn’t so damn beautiful. And loving; and caring; and sweet. Funny, charming, amazing, smart, understanding, trustworthy, adorable. And if he would just turn straight for her so they could be together. Agh!
Emily mentally shook herself. They were at her house now and Jason was coming around to open her door for her. He reached her his hand and helped her out of the car.
They walked to her front door together and stood there, awkwardly. Emily fiddled with her purse and Jason just watched her.
"I’d better get inside. It was a nice dinner, though. Maybe we could do it again sometime," Emily said as she reached for the knob of the door.
"Yeah. Maybe… I could take you out to a real restaurant sometime or something. And listen, about the sex thing, I didn’t mean to come on that strong. It’s just that you pulled me in for the kiss and I got so wrapped up in it. I’m really sorry about that," Jason apologized.
"It’s okay. It was my fault. I shouldn’t have reacted that way, but my mind just…" Emily shook her head.
"I understand. I guess I’ll see you later, though. I had a nice time tonight. Goodnight," Jason said.
He bent down some and planted a sweet and gentle kiss on Emily’s cheek. She closed her eyes and smiled. Jason wasn’t like Damien thought. And he even apologized for trying to take her pants off.
Emily watched Jason leave. When he was out of sight she opened the door and walked in. She could hear voices in the kitchen. Two girls and a guy. She knew who the two girls’ voices were, but she wasn’t sure about the guy.
She walked toward the voices… and froze. Of course the guys voice is familiar. One voice was her mother, one was Jess, and the other…
Damien, Emily’s mind told her.
She let her breath out in a gush, just realizing she was holding it. She walked slowly and sneakily, trying to make sure no one heard her. She made a stead, slow walk to the stairs.
Emily was starting up the stairs. She was almost to the top when the voice called.
"Em, I know you’re home. And I know you’re trying to sneak to your room, but I need to talk to you. Would you mind coming to the kitchen?" Damien yelled.
"Damn it!" Emily muttered.
She headed back downstairs and to the kitchen. Why the hell would Damien be at her house? And why does he need to talk to her? In her kitchen, with her mom and Jess.
Emily was taking her time walking to the kitchen when it hit her. Damien was never one to tattle on someone. Unless it was someone he cared about and they were going to do something stupid. Damien told her Jason only wanted her for sex and she ignored him. She left with Jason, and now Damien is sitting in her kitchen wanting to talk to her with her mom and Jess there.
Oh god, she groaned silently.
