Secrets of His World - Chapter 14

I've got another one for you guys :D Enjoy!
Damien’s P.O.V.

Damien sat outside the emergency room. He was waiting for the nurse to update him on what was happening with Emily and the baby. When the nurse finally came her face was blank, giving away neither bad news nor good.

Damien held his breath the whole while it took her to walk to him. When she finally reached him and she spoke, Damien let out a sigh of relief.

"The baby’s fine," the nurse said when she stopped in front of Damien.

"And Emily? What about Emily?" Damien asked.

"She’s going to be fine, as well. She was running a high temperature when you brought her in, but we’ve given her medicine to reduce it."

"What was wrong with her, anyway?"

"The doctors aren’t for sure yet, but when they are we will notify you."

"Can I see her now?"

"Yes. Follow me," the nurse said as she turned and walked away.

Damien followed her, thanking God that Emily was okay. If it had been anything serious, she could have lost the baby. Or worse yet, she, herself, could have died.

Damien threw that thought out of his mind. If Emily had died, he wouldn’t be able to live. He probably would have went on with life, but as far as him actually being there and lively, he wouldn’t have been able to do it.

When they entered the room Damien wanted to rush over to Emily and hug her. The only thing stopping him was the fact that she was hooked up to so many wires that it was impossible to do so.

Instead, he pulled a chair up beside the bed and sat there. He took Emily’s hand in his own and kissed it. When the nurse left him with Emily, he started talking to her.

"Emily Marie Lovett, I swear… I wouldn’t know what to do without you," he whispered.

He wanted to pour his heart out to Emily. He wanted to tell her how much he loved her. How much she means to him. How much he would hate life without her.

"I know you can’t really hear me right now, but you can still hear me subconsciously. Em, I love you. I love you so much that sometimes it’s almost too much. I’ve loved you since the first day I met you. And I still remember the first day I met you."

Damien would never forget the first time he and Emily met. It was the second week of school. Emily picked a flower from the garden at school and gave it to Damien.

"This is for you. It’s an invitation to be my new best friend. If you accept it, I’ll share all my secrets with you and I’ll love you for the rest of my life," Emily had told him.

Damien had taken the flower with a smile. He and Emily had made a promise to tell all their secrets to each other. They also promised that nothing would ever come between them. Up until Damien started hanging with Clare, they had kept their promises. Well, apart from Damien not telling Emily about him being able to see future events.

He returned to the present, where Emily was still lying on the bed asleep. She looked so beautiful, even when she was sick. There was just something about Emily that tore Damien apart. Something so sweet, so loving, so amazing.

"There’s a lot of things I haven’t ever told you. And I want to tell you right now. I’ll tell you later when you’re awake, too. But, Emily, I have always loved you. I would do anything for you. The reason I didn’t tell you about my being able to see futures was because I didn’t want you to think I was a freak," Damien told her.

He took a deep breath and continued.

"You know how they say everyone has a soul mate? I think you’re mine. You’re the other half of my puzzle. The missing piece that would make me whole. I’ve never felt the way I do for you about anyone else. And I never will, either. You’re the only girl I’ve ever really loved in a non-family way. You’re the girl that makes me smile. The girl that makes me laugh. The girl that makes me cry sometimes. And God only knows how mad you can make me," Damien said, chuckling at the last part.

Damien didn’t know how to really tell Emily exactly how he felt. But he tried to.

"Anyway, the point is that I love you, and am in love with you. If you would take me, I would ask you to marry me. You’re my best friend. My one true friend. And you’re my only, and I mean only, true love…"

Damien didn’t know what else to say. He wanted Emily to wake up so that they could talk. But, she was exhausted so he would let her rest.

"How’s she doing?" a voice asked from the doorway.

Damien turned around to see Jess standing there.

"She’s running a temperature. Other than that, though, they said she would be fine. The baby, too," Damien told her.

"So, you know?"

"Yeah. I do."

"She told you? I didn’t think she would."

"She didn’t," was all Damien said.

"Then… How did you find out?"

Damien took a deep breath. He might as well tell Jessica about himself. There was no point in keeping it from her.

"I’m psychic. I see visions of the future. When I was sitting in my house, I had a vision about you and Emily in the hospital. Emily was lying on the bed sleeping, and you were holding a baby. From your point of view I saw the baby’s name. It had my last name, so I put all the pieces together and found out that Emily was pregnant."

"Oh. Wow."

"Jess, what was the real reason for her not going to tell me about the baby?" Damien asked after a moment of silence.

"I don’t know for sure, really. But I can tell you that it had something to do with Clare. Apparently your little girlfriend threatened her about talking to you, and coming near you, and basically just having anything to do with you."

Damien groaned. Of course Clare would have done something like that. She was like Damien’s psycho stalker.

"She won’t let me talk to anyone! She’s like a psycho chick or something. It pisses me off. But her threatening Emily… that pisses me off enough to kill someone. I swear, if she comes back near me, I’m going to hurt her. Badly."

"Well, I would say you shouldn’t do that, but I couldn’t say something I don’t mean," Jess said.

Damien smiled at her.

"Jessica, we have got to get Emily to forgive me. I swear, I wouldn’t be with someone like Clare. And I’m kind of, sort of, in love with Emily…"

"I know you are," Jess announced in her matter-of-fact voice.

"How do you know?"

"I’m not blind, Damien. I can see the way you look at her. You’ve been friends forever and you’ve stayed the night so many times that I always saw the way you acted around her. You’ve probably been in love with her since the first time you met. Besides, I was standing in the doorway when you were telling her how much you loved her."

Damien and Jess both laughed. Jess was there the day Emily and Damien met, too. She was the one who dropped Emily off at the school.

"I figured you always knew. I also figured Rachel always knew… Where is she, anyway?" Damien said to Jess.

"She’s at work. Thank God for that, too. Mom doesn’t know and Emily said she wasn’t telling her until she started showing."

"Oh my. Why would she keep this from Rachel? It’s not like she’s going to get into a lot of trouble. She’s out of school and her eighteenth birthday is coming up in a few weeks."

"I dunno, Damien. I just don’t know…"

Damien didn’t comment anymore about it. Instead he turned back to look at Emily. He wished she would wake up already.

Emily lay in the hospital bed, pretending she was still asleep. She had listened to everything Damien said, and everything he and Jess had talked about.

She didn’t know how they hadn’t figured out she wasn’t asleep yet. Her breath had caught a little when Damien was confessing his love for her. And she thought she was going to cry.

Emily knew Damien loved her. It was obvious because they had always been friends, and friends love each other, right? But she hadn’t expected him to love her as much as he did.

And why didn’t he tell her before? Why didn’t he say something about loving her that much when they were alone at the River House?

Why? Why? Why!? Emily needed answers to her questions. Especially before she started getting mad at Damien for not telling her before.

When things got quiet and Emily didn’t hear anyone moving, she decided to open her eyes and peak around. Which, of course, was the wrong thing to do. She opened her eyes and turned her head a little.

Damien was sitting beside the bed, watching her still. He didn’t say anything. Nor did he move. He just watched her as she stared at him.

"Say something," Emily said after a moment of silence..

"Good morning," Damien replied.

"Morning?"

"Yup. It’s approximately 12:15 a.m."

"Oh… I thought you meant morning as, like, 4:00 a.m. or something."

"Nope," was all Damien said.

"Okay…"

"What?" Damien asked.

"Nothing."

"Are you sure?"

"Yup," Emily tried sounding like Damien.

"Are you hungry?" Damien asked, abruptly.

Emily thought about it for a moment. She was a little hungry. But the thought of the food she wanted made her a little sick.

"Um, yeah. I am, actually," Emily said.

"Then lets go get you something to eat."

"How? I’m stuck here for a while, aren’t I?"

"No. They said you could leave as soon as you woke up."

"Ah. Alright, then. Lets go!" Emily told him as she pulled the covers from her and sat up in the bed.

Emily hopped from the bed and grabbed her clothing. She went to the bathroom and changed. She was hungry, but she mostly just wanted to get out of the hospital.

When Damien and Emily were in the car together, Emily decided to tell Damien that she had heard everything he said. She didn’t know how he would take that.

"Damien, I - " Emily started.

"I know," Damien cut her off.

"You know?"

Emily raised her brow at him.

"Yeah. I didn’t know you were at first, but when Jess showed up, I realized that you were awake. You must have drifted off a few minutes after that, though, because you seemed more at peace."

"Oh."

Emily had fallen asleep once when she was listening to them talk. She was exhausted. But she was woken up by her stomach.

"Where are we eating?" Emily asked a few moments later.

"I don’t know, yet. I thought I’d take you home and fix you something, to be honest."

Emily smiled at Damien. He looked over and smiled back. The smile he gave her made her throat swell.

No matter what had happened between them, Emily still loved Damien. She would always love him, she realized while she was still looking at him.

There would never be another guy in her life that meant more to her than Damien did. She was meant for Damien, and vise versa. The realization came as a shock, even though she had known it before.

Now, she just had to make sure nothing else happened between them. She had to keep Damien with her. And she would, somehow…

As long as Clare didn’t show up.
