Secretary of State Clinton Goes to Mexico with Drugs in Mind

President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton are working together with Mexican authorities and various federal agencies to stem the violence of the drug war in Mexico.
That the drug problem in Mexico is getting worse seems a matter of common knowledge these days, with reporting on the terrible violence in that country seemingly producing a story each day. Now, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is on her way to Mexico with a new plan in place that will put more of the burden of the drug war on the United States. Mexico has made demands for enhanced action from the U.S. (which is kind of cute if you think about it – in the same way as a 2-year-old demanding another cookie) and it appears the U.S. and President Obama will oblige.

Said Obama of the steps to stop the violence and drug trade, "It’s very significant. We are sending millions of dollars in additional equipment to provide more effective surveillance. We are providing hundreds of additional personnel that can help control the border, deal with customs issues." With over 1,000 dead in Mexico this year already from drug-related violence, the help is coming none too soon. Said Obama, We need to do more to make sure that illegal guns and cash aren’t flowing back to these cartels. That’s part of what is financing their operations. That’s part of what is arming them. That’s what makes them so dangerous and this is something that we take very seriously and we’re going to continue to work on diligently in the months to come."

An analyst of the Mexico drug war problem commented that the issue of violence in Mexico, and it spilling across the border with the U.S., has caught up with the new U.S. presidential administration quicker than expected. "They’re not quite sure how to get all the moving parts of the government working together," noted the analyst.
