Second Child Baby Shower Etiquette
The following are the common questions faced by people when holding a second baby shower.
Should There be a Baby Shower for the Second Baby?
This is naturally the most important question. If you know the answer to this question, only then you can proceed further. As per the baby shower etiquette, baby shower should be held only for the first baby. But according to the modern baby shower etiquette for a second child, one can hold a baby shower for the second baby also. After all, the second baby is also a new baby! The joy of being a mother for the second time is the same as for the first time. So why not celebrate it again? Besides this reason, a second baby shower can be held in the following cases also.
- If there is a big gap between the first baby and the second, the expecting mother is going to need baby supplies for the second child. Organizing a second baby shower will provide her with those things.
- If the expecting mother cannot afford the baby supplies, holding a second baby shower for her is a very good idea. Generally a surprise baby shower is not thrown, but in this case you can organize a surprise baby shower as the expecting mother might feel awkward.
- If the sex of the child is different from the first child, then a second baby shower is perfectly alright. A second baby shower can also be organized if the mother to-be is expecting twins or triplets.
If you are throwing a surprise baby shower, there is no question, anyone close to the expecting mom can arrange one. However, according to the general baby shower etiquette, the baby shower should be held by the couple, as it makes people feel that the to-be parents are expecting gifts! But that is too childish in any case. As far as the second baby shower etiquette is concerned, the couple can throw the baby shower, but if the parents feel uncomfortable throwing the second baby shower themselves, the close friends or relatives can organize one.
Who Should Be Invited for the Second Baby Shower?
For the first baby shower, generally everyone who is close to the expecting mother is invited. But in case of the second baby shower, the etiquette are quite different. As per the etiquette, those who are invited for the first baby shower, shouldn't be invited for the second baby shower, as it is not right to burden them with gifts again! So those who couldn't attend the first baby shower can be invited, besides that the close relatives can also be invited. You can also invite people who you have met recently, like new colleagues etc.
What Gifts Should be Given on the Second Baby Shower?
Till now you must have realized that there are different etiquette for first baby shower and the rest. In case of the first baby shower, one can gift anything ranging from baby blankets to a baby seat. But for the second baby shower inexpensive baby gifts that will be needed for the baby are also fine.
