Search Engine Submission and Higher Search Engine Rankings
Love it or hate it, like it or not, it is here to stay – am talking about Search Engine Optimization. Of course, there are a number of individuals in the online media business whose negative reaction to SEO ranges from sneers to looks which mean violence. For an evening full of fun, get a person affiliated to the print media to talk about their stint with SEO when they first tried to get into the web content business.
One such Search Engine Optimization service is Search Engine Submission. When a website submits a link to itself to a search engine directly, it is termed as Search Engine Submission. With the mammoth steps that Search Engine Optimization has taken today, Search Engine Submission has been rendered obsolete.
There was a time when Search Engines had not honed their search and crawling abilities to the extent they have today. This was when it was useful and even necessary to manually submit websites and web pages to search engines so that websites could come up as results for searches.
Issues with Search Engine Submissions
‘Submit our website manually to that search engine. Whenever someone searches, we at least have a chance that we show up as a result, who knows, even the first!’
Now, what do you read wrong on in this sentence? As a web user, I would think that manually submitting websites to search engines gave undue advantage to bigger websites over smaller websites. Bigger websites would have the resources and human power to submit their websites, but then some smaller websites could not. Therefore, the very search results were looked with an eye of suspicion.
Before this entire issue would invalidate the entire searching process on the Internet, search engines enhanced their technology. This enabled them to better search websites, known as ‘crawling’ in web development parlance, and rendered search engine submission absolutely unnecessary.
Higher Search Engine Rankings
Ah, that glorious top – three ranking on some major search engine. Is it achieved, attained, or simply bestowed upon? What wrong do we do on our website? What is working for our website? Actually speaking, there is no hard and fast rule that makes a website or web page rank on the search engines. However, search engines do give brownie points for trying, and that’s that.
Here are some points to keep in mind while optimizing your website for the search engines (that’s the actual term, you know, not search engine optimizing your website for search engines).
Use the Title Tag: The title tags are necessary for the crawlers to work their magic. Also, keep in mind that the title tag should not look unnatural and should be grammatically correct. Title tags are the one line source for both the machine as well as the human to judge on what the page is about. Deceiving them with some non related title just to catch the attraction and non-respective to the actual page content can do no good for both the user and the site itself
URL, Short is Sweet: Ok, you have an entire web page to highlight your keywords. Of course, highlighting all keywords in the title is heaven itself, but doing that at the cost of natural is not a good idea.
Sitemap: Ensure that your website has a very easy sitemap. Do not make it a maze of sharp turns and loose endings; dead ends are a complete no-no.
Content Writing: The content of your website is inexplicably important for higher search engine rankings. Some search engine optimists are of the opinion that the content on the website doesn’t matter at all to search engine rankings. The truth of the matter is that the content of the website is compulsorily, irreplaceably and inadvertently important for search engine rankings. And so the "content is the king" (that was my username once upon a time). Users expect content and the engines work for users so content is a must to rank well in search engines
There are therefore, some tips for the content writers who are preparing the content for the website. Good content for websites can simply be described as crisp, concise, and factual. The best example of good content for websites can be the way we were told to write our comprehensions and essays in school. That’s the natural way of writing that is working best for the Internet at this point of time.
So, I am going back to my secret underground laboratory of making cookie cutter Search Engine Optimists and Content Writers, and will be unleashing them on the digital world in a while. I need a superhero to fight.. think of a name fast.. ‘Digit’.. is that good?
