Sea of Love: A Short Story
A sad story of a girl who is in love with a guy, but cannot find the words to tell him. Based on a song with the same title.
I stayed away from him for so long. Now, I stand in front of his doorstep, staring into nothingness. He's inside, I tell myself.
I think that may be, if I just have the courage to knock and he'd open the door that everything would fall magically into place.
Still, I stand for another 5 minutes on his doorstep. In my left side is a large backpack; in my right hand is a letter.
As if in a daze, I knock on the door and wait for a few seconds.
Slowly, the door opens and I see you there, with a surprised look in your face.
Before you could even speak, I run towards you and give you a big hug. We stay there, as long as we could.
"I want to tell you how much I..."
" ...love you." I say.
And magically you kiss me and all my worries are gone. I knew the answer.
"I love you too," he tells me.
"Do you remember when we first met? That day, I knew you were mine." I declared.
"Come with me.... I'm leaving soon.... I want you to come with me." I say.
He stares at me with a smile on his face.
And then I wake up, and everything is the same.
I'm still outside holding the letter and my backpack. And he's still inside, not knowing anything.
And then I cry, because I know that I'm wrong. He doesn't deserve a coward like me.
So I do the only courageous thing I can do. I walk towards your door and I carefully slip my letter into your mailbox.
In a few minutes, you will check your mail and you will find my letter to you.
This letter holds the truth. The years of being your friend and wanting to be so much more. The endless nights thinking about you. And the many months trying to stay away from something I never had.
I sigh and do nothing. There is no point, anyway.
So, with a last glance at your door, I clutch my backpack tighter around my body, and I walk away.
I don't know the answers to any of the questions I asked. In my heart, is just a small flicker of hope.
