Science Is the Real God

Every religion in the world claims that its particular God is almighty. However, there is nothing in recorded history which validates the claim that Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed or any other of those so called emissaries of God had divine powers. There is nothing either which supports the claim that the supposed boss of those men was all powerful.

Nevertheless, history does show that science and technology is all powerful, and that is at the core of the word god. That term is understood by everybody, as somebody or something that has no limit in what it can do. Science fits perfectly into that definition because there is no dream or vision that is too fantastic for the power of technology to transform into reality.

A case in point is the subject of health. For thousands of years, epidemics such as cholera, typhus, the black plague, influenza, tuberculosis, smallpox, measles, and whooping cough ravaged the world. They had existed for so long and people were so impotent in dealing with them, that everybody was convinced that nothing would ever defeat them. However, one day the scientists succeeded in defeating them all.

For thousands of years, famines and malnutrition wrecked havoc on every nation of the globe. They were so recurrent and systemic, that everybody was certain that hunger would never get eliminated. However, one day scientists changed all that by creating farm machinery, chemical fertilizers, and processed food. Those goods immediately increased the food supply and soon after the world started having a problem of excess food.

For thousands of years, people who were born sterile would remain motherless or fatherless during their whole lives. Sterility delivered such a childless certainty, that everybody was convinced that nothing would ever change that. However, one day scientists changed everything as they succeeded in making test tube babies.

For thousands of years, communication was extremely slow as transportation by horse and ship was the only means to carry a message. The transport possibilities were so limited and such a situation had prevailed for so long, that everybody was convinced that information would always travel slowly. However, one day scientists transformed all that. They not only invented the telegraph and the telephone, but also the Internet and from one moment to the next it became as fast as light.

For thousands of years the average life expectancy was of less than twenty years and infant mortality was of 600 for every 1,000 live births. Such a terrifying short life span prevailed for so long, that everybody was convinced that it was the will of God and there was nothing that people could do to alter it. However, one day scientists changed all that and now life expectancy is of eighty and only five out of a thousand children die during their first year of life.

From the start, the only one that has really embodied the properties of the word God has been science. However, since human beings are the result of a convoluted and fortuitous process of evolution, the specie ended up having a brain that is fundamentally illogical. As a result, it is naturally inclined to treat matters illogically.

It lies within the genetic structure of humans to seek irrational explanations and religions are the quintessence of irrationality. That is why for thousands of years they have seduced so many people.

However, so long people continue to be misled by religion they will continue to suffer, because creeds are incapable of solving problems.

The unfortunate truth of this world is that for thousands of years, humans have been betting on the wrong horse.
