Fantasy fiction and science fiction are one of the most popular and entertaining ones. There are many science fiction shorts, short funny stories or stories with morals, written by some of the best authors, Issac Asimov, Robert A Heinlein, Arthur C Clarke, etc. to name a few. First let us look at what all are the free resources stories online. One of the best one is the gutenberg site. Go to the gutenberg site, then go to the categories and select bookshelf, then go to the science fiction section, and voila! A huge collection of A to Z authors will appear. These are very good collection of sci-fi books, and you can find many science fictions short stories here. You will find even books by the greatest sci-fi authors like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. So, check out this site. You can even download the books in various formats, so that you can enjoy the book. You can download it in word format, or even in pdf. There are also many audio books available on gutenberg site. You will find good science fiction shorts for middle school, adults and kids here. Make sure you read a short review of the science fiction book before, you start reading the whole book, to see if the book has a story that you will like.

Apart from project gutenberg site, there are many other free online libraries, where you can find great science fics for kids and adults. There is questia, fullbooks.com, then there is the Internet public library site too. You can also try other sites like read print, literature network, or the online books page site. These sites are available for free to the public.

But, if you want to read some new science fiction short stories free, then you won't find these books online for free. So, what you do? You can find many books on sites like scribd and esnips. Esnips is my favorite one, after gutenberg as it has a simple interface and the users keep on uploading many new book ebooks, which you can download for free. Scribd is similar, except that its interface I don't find very user-friendly. So, search on these sites if you are looking for a particular new rare or famous short stories. Make sure you use using many ways, like typing the author name, or genre or name of the book, etc.

Another way to get them for free is to look for torrents. Well, this is not advised, but if you are really looking for book then give it a shot. Search on Google for particular science fiction story, then type the book name and torrent you. Chances are that you might come across the book's torrent, then upload it in a bitTorrent software and it will get downloaded in some time. There is a very good torrent on Internet which is called sci-fi and fantasy library, it has really good books, right from Douglas Adams to Star Wars.

If you don't like to read online books, then you can consider joining a library or visit the public library to access books from the sci-fi genre.
