School Days - Chapter 13
Amy is just living her life, getting by with little of any of consequence happening. That all changes when Jake moves to town...
Hey! So sorry it's taken so long to get this next chapter up. I can't blame the internet this time, just my own procrastination and getting caught up in other things, namely reading - I can't believe it's been nearly a month since I posted the last chapter! No promises as to when the next will be up but I'll try to make it sooner rather than later. Thanks to all the people who are reading this story, I really love all your positive comments and this really motivated me to keep on writing :D Thank you!
Hope you enjoy this chapter :)

True to his word, Jake wasn't in school the next day. Amy had been tempted not to go herself, but her parents insisted that she had missed enough with her one day off and her argument that it was a Friday and so she would only be there for one day before the weekend fell on deaf ears. Given that she had slept so late the previous day Amy found it incredibly difficult to get up with her alarm. In the end it took her mother pounding on the door and yelling that she would miss the bus if she didn't get up that second to force Amy to drag herself out of bed.
Having done so, she threw her uniform on and quickly ran a brush through her hair. She hurriedly packed her bag, hoping she hadn't forgotten anything, and ran downstairs. She dropped her bag at the bottom of the stairs running into the kitchen to grab a cereal bar to eat on her way to school. A quick kiss to her mum and the twins and she was out the door once again, bag in hand.
She pulled it onto her shoulder at the end of end of her garden before starting at a gentle jog down the road. Glancing at her watch, she saw that she had only minutes until the bus left. Speeding up slightly she started praying that she wouldn't miss the bus again - there would be no Jake to rescue her this time.
Luck was with Amy that day. According to her watch, the bus should have already left but as Amy rounded the corner she saw it just pulling up. She sighed in relief and slowed her pace to a quick walk, clambering up onto the bus more than slightly out of breath and glad she hadn't had too much in her bag that morning.
The rest of the morning was uneventful. She wanted to tell both Tina and Ella about her conversation with Jake the previous night, but the classes she had with them were busy and quiet so she didn't have the chance. It was nearly the end of art, her third period class, and she was looking forward to lunch when she would have a chance to talk to them, so almost missed her Miss Reynolds calling her back.
She wanted to fill her in on what she had missed the previous day (not much, as Amy has suspected) but this seemed to take an extraordinary amount of time. Then she wanted to make sure that Amy was doing alright. Normally Amy was a fan of how nice Miss Reynolds was, but this time she found it slightly irritating, and she had to fight to hide this. It wouldn't do to get on the wrong side of her favorite teacher, plus she has seen what a temper Miss Reynolds could have.
Amy smiled sweetly and answered all of her questions before being regaled with Miss Reynolds' own experience when her uncle had suffered a stroke just a year previously. It was at this point that Amy realized that may be Miss Reynolds needed someone to talk to about this. Miss Reynolds' accent gave away the fact that she was from the south, standing out against the accents of the majority of pupils and staff at the school. The rest of her family was still in the south.
Amy settled into having a chat with her teacher at this point and actually enjoyed it. A lot of the questions she had been afraid to ask her parents she found she could talk to Miss Reynolds about and a lot of her fears were allayed.
It was a long time before she glanced at the clock, but when she did Amy saw that it was nearly half-way through the lunch hour.
"I'm so sorry for keeping you for so long!" apologized Miss Reynolds as she ushered Amy out. "You must be wanting to spend time with your friends not sat here talk to me."
Amy, truly smiling, stated that she didn't mind in the slightest and that she was more than happy to talk to her and have her questions answered.
Miss Reynolds smiled in return. "Well, thank you very much dear, but you still have to eat so go get a move on before all the tolerable food is gone."
Grinning at her teacher's last remark, Amy left the art room and made for the cafeteria. It being so late, there was hardly any queue and she quickly grabbed some food before scanning the room for her two best friends.
She soon saw them sitting at a table with Ella typing something on her phone. Amy was halfway towards them when she felt her phone vibrate on her pocket. Guessing that she was the person Ella had been texting, she ignored and simply plonked into a seat next to Ella.
"Oh my gosh! We were so worried about you!" gushed Ella instantly before hitting Amy.
"Ow!" she exclaimed as Tina giggled. "What was that for! I thought you just said you were worried about me?"
"We were, but why didn't you reply to my message, huh?" questioned Ella, a scary glint in her eye. For all that Ella looked angelic she could be more than a little scary at times, a thing that many people had realized too late.
Amy sighed. "Because I got it about two seconds ago, and if I had I still would have been replying rather than sitting her." She shrugged. "I figured it was just quicker to come tell you where I was." She fixed Ella with her own attempt at a steely glare which, if Ella's reaction was anything to go by, failed to have any effect whatsoever.
"She's just being silly," intervened Tina. The calmest of the group she often had to step in and break up any minor disagreements between the two of them. "Now that you are here, get on with telling us where you've been. We thought something might have happened with your grandfather."
The concern evident of Tina's face was soon mirrored on Ella's. "Yeah, we really want to know," she said in a much gentler tone.
Amy took a deep breath and began the explanation of where she had been, before launching into her latest confusing encounter with Jake. Both were equally perplexed by his behavior and could offer no reasons as to why her was avoiding her questions.
Ella's suggestion was to 'give him a taste of his own medicine' and ignore him in return, but Tina insisted that she should just ask him what was going on. Though Ella's suggestion seemed like much more fun, she knew that Tina's was really the best solution. Amy sighed as she grudgingly admitted so.
"Yeah, I guess I'll just talk to him next time I get the chance."
"In person!" interrupted Ella. "That way he can't slip out of in like her did on the phone last night." Tina nodded in agreement. "And you can always inflict a little pain if he tries," continued Ella with that glint back in her eye. Amy made yet another mental note to never get on the wrong side of Ella.
At that point the bell rang signaling that they had to head to their next class. Amy received hugs from both of her friends as they stood, then the three of them headed towards maths, the only lesson they had together. As they passed the main hall Ella started.
"What?" questioned Tina.
"I just remembered something" breathed Ella, so quiet that the other two could barely hear her.
They gave her a couple of seconds, but when she was no more forthcoming Amy followed her earlier advice about minor violence and elbowed her in the ribs in an attempt to get an answer out of her. When this didn't work she exchanged a glance at Tina who shrugged her shoulders.
By this time they had almost reached their classroom and Amy knew that they were almost out of time for getting whatever it was out of Ella. Deciding to resort to extreme measures, she reached up and began ruffling Ella's hair.
Ella let out a small shriek and stopped in the middle of the corridor. "What on earth was that for?" she nearly yelled. Amy and Tina both burst into fits of laughter at her over-reaction.
"Sorry, but it was the only think I could think of to get you to snap out of it," giggled Amy. Sobering up slightly, but still with a grin on her face, she linked arms with Amy. "Now tell us what you remembered or you know what'll happen." Both Amy and Tina raised their hands threateningly.
Ella ducked slightly out of their way. "Oh, it's nothing that important. I just remembered that Mrs Butler said she wanted to see me after school today to go over some of the songs for the play and I told her that was fine, but then I just remembered that I have a hair appointment straight after school." Shrugging nonchalantly she pulled the door to their classroom open and lead them to their chairs.
"So you see, it's really nothing. I probably just over reacted."
Amy and Tina shared a glance. Whilst this was believable, there was one other thing to take into consideration: Ella was such a good actress that it was often impossible to tell when she was lying.
Amy had a sneaking suspicion that this was one of those times.
