School Days - Chapter 2
Amy is just living her life, getting by with little of any of consequence happening. That all changes when Jake moves to town...
Hey! Just wanted to say thanks for all the great feedback! This is the first time I posted anything and I was kinda nervous so yeah... thank you! :D
To Rosabella Marie: I'm not American so not sure how the 'grades' system works but I was writing for them to be in Year 10, so about 14 or 15, which I think is the same thing.

Amy met her friend Ella outside the art room, Ella having just had R.S. on the floor above. They talked about their mornings and wandered in the direction of the dining room, picking up Tina on the way from her P.E. lesson. Given the rain that had worsened from a drizzle to a steady downpour the dining room was packed – not many people were willing to walk the 10 minutes into town, even with the temptation of more interesting and appetizing food.
Amy sighed as they inched forwards in the queue. Her eyes flicked distractedly around the room, scouting the few free tables left, when her eyes fell on Jake, looking hesitantly in her direction, further forward in the line. She waved at him, smiling, and he grinned and waved back enthusiastically.
"And who’s that then?" whispered Ella in her ear. "Never seen him before. He’s sort of cute though."
Amy reddened slightly at the comment and suddenly found herself feeling jealous that Ella thought Jake was cute.
"She was totally staring at him for like half of History!" Tina said, a little too loudly for Amy’s liking but she was the other side of Ella, so out of reach for any sort of subtle retaliation. "He’s called Jake and he just moved here. Wants to be an actor or something, so you might see him in drama El."
"Hmmm…that could be interesting" Ella mused, looking Jake up and down. He was stood just past the end of the queue, apparently waiting for someone.
"Gees, give the guy a chance Ella!" said Amy. "He’s just moved here. At least let him settle in a bit first before you try and get your claws into him" she said cheekily, winking at Ella as she moved up to the cash register.
"Hey" came Jake’s quiet voice. How the heck is this guy ever gonna make it in the West End?! Amy mused to herself.
"Hey Jake! How you doing? Hope your first day isn’t going too badly!" Amy said to him when she had finished paying for her sandwich.
"It’s going pretty good actually. I’ve only gotten lost twice, which I’m actually quite proud of." He gave her a cheeky grin before carrying on. "I’ve had English, History, and then Music."
"Yeah, I know" Amy started, before stopping at Jake’s confused look. "I mean, I know about English and History. Everyone from the same year has English at the same time, and you were in my History class."
By this time Ella and Tina had also paid for their food and were standing by, Ella tapping her foot somewhat impatiently.
"Oh, erm. Jake, these are my friends, Tina and Ella." Both waved at their names, and Jake smiled at them both.
"Very nice to meet you both" he said politely.
"So, Jake," said Ella, confident as always. "You got anyone to sit with or do want to join us?"
Jake looked across at Amy and smiled before looking back to Ella. "Yeah, I’d like that. I don’t really know anyone else yet."
"Awesomeness." Tina said. Amy shook her head slightly as they headed towards a table. Tina was always making up random words. It was actually quite amusing sometimes.
They sat down and the three girls started chatting quite easily, slipping into a long-established routing, talking about what they had done over the weekend. Tina had been working and gone to the cinema with her latest crush. For all that she seemed quiet, Tina was actually a huge flirt and had gone out with half the guys her age at least once. Amy couldn’t compete with this so said a couple of sentences detailing her somewhat boring weekend – books and singing – before letting Ella take over.
Ella had been down to London to visit her dad and he had taken her to see Hairspray at the West End. Her parents had only been divorced for a year or so and she was still getting used to it, but she definitely enjoyed having a parent who lived in London.
"It was just so amazing!" she gushed, her eyes shining as she remembered it. "I wish I could go to shows every night!" She sighed in longing. "I can’t wait till I’ve finished acting school, then I might actually have a chance to appear in one of them." Ella tailed off, her eyes misted over with happiness as she contemplated her dream future.
At this Jake, who hadn’t really said much up until this point piped up. "I know what you mean. It would be a dream come true to be able to perform in one of those shows."
"You want to be an actor too?" Ella enquired, turning her full attention, and the full power of her piercing blue eyes, on him.
"Mmm, erm, yeah" he stammered, locked in her gaze. That effectively took both Ella and Jake out of the conversation. They were in a deep discussion about all things theatre, comparing idols and which shows they’d seen, leaving Tina and Amy to talk about more mundane topics.
Five minutes before the end of lunch Amy peered out of a nearby window, disappointed to see that the rain showed no sign of lifting. "Ok, I’ll see you two lovely people in Maths in an hour. I have another hour of all the delights of Mademoiselle Girard." She grimaced somewhat before turning to Jake. "What have you got this afternoon?" she inquired.
He pulled a folded square of paper out of his trouser pocket and peeled it apart. It seemed to have gotten somewhat soaked at some point in the morning.
"I’ve got..." he paused as he tried to make out the smudged ink. "French with Mademoiselle Gerard then Maths with Mr. Morris." He looked up to see Amy giggling. "What?"
Amy struggled to stop laughing to answer his question. "Well, I think you’re in my French class with Mademoiselle Girard" she said, slightly stressing the last name, watching as a flush of colour worked it’s way up Jake’s cheeks. "And then you’re in the same Maths class as us as well. It’s quite coincidental."
She turned away from Jake. "Ok, it turns out we’ll both see you in Maths in an hour then. Enjoy German!" Tina and Ella said goodbye to Jake and then they parted ways, heading to opposite ends of the school for their lessons.
"And off we go!" Amy announced to Jake. "Cannot wait…" she said sarcastically. Jake looked confused for a moment before she explained. "Let’s just say that Mademoiselle Girard and I have a very," she paused, clearing her throat, "interesting relationship."
Jake smiled. "Ah," he sighed in realization. "I get it. Not your favorite teacher in the world then?"
"No, not so much." Amy agreed. "But I only have her for another 4 months and then she’s back off to France! I’m counting down to that day." She said with a grim smile on her lips. "But enough of my whining! We have a lesson to get to, and I’ll be damned if you’re getting lost this time!"
Jake grinned at her again, and she found herself thinking how much she loved his smile, about how it lit up his whole face. She mentally shook herself, grinned back at him and then led the way to the next lesson.
