I like watching them and I'll also agree that there are times when even I get scared and start biting my nails. But that's the thrill about it, it's made so that you get scared and avoid watching it. There are many scary movies which have been made since the dawn of cinema and in this article you will get a glimpse of the scariest ones.

Scariest Horror Movies Ever

I think the perfect time to watch scariest horror movies is during Halloween. A feeling of fear is in the atmosphere, people dress up in scary costumes and the whole environment is just perfect. This doesn't mean you cannot watch horror movies on any other day. The list given mentions movies that have instances which are enough to scare you even in daytime.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre
What's scary about this 1974 masterpiece? I can't lay a finger on one incident which makes it a must watch, was it the leather human mask, may be the chainsaw roar or the fact that the movie is inspired from a true story. What I can say is that this movie is very scary and don't forget to watch the end.

The Exorcist
Spinning heads, vile expletives and buckets and buckets of puke. Yes, you guessed it right, this is the story of the 1973 hit, The Exorcist. When this movie hit the movie screen, people were running out of the movie theaters. Many of them also fainted. If you are a true horror fan, The Exorcist should be a must watch on a dark night.

The Shining
Most people don't call it horror, but that doesn't mean that The Shining won't leave you thrilled. Dr. Hannibal Lecter aka Anthony Hopkins disturbs you with his voice, his eyes, his tone, and his actions. Silence of The Lambs is one of the most brilliant movies ever. Even when Anthony Hopkins is locked inside a glass enclosure and FBI trainee Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) seeks his help, she's shown as helpless as a lamb. This movie surely is a thriller.

Psycho
The movie that started it all, this 1960 Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece rules the list of scary movies. The shower sequence in this film is one of the most famous scenes in the history of cinema. Great music, great story and great actors. To sum it up, people still have nightmares about this film.

The Omen
I don't know what's your favorite version of The Omen but I find the 1976 version very scary. It's one of the scariest films of all time and I clearly remember crying in fear because I was very small when I was watched this film. The most disturbing scene is Damien the son of the Antichrist pedaling his cycle and pushing his mom from the second floor.

Rosemary's Baby
It's a brilliant horror movie by Roman Polanski. The lead couple Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes move into a haunted building and bad things start happening to the couple. Watch this film for more details and some scary horror scenes.

The Ring
We all know Gore Verbinski as the director of Pirates of Caribbean franchise, but few know that he is the master maker of the 2002 horror film The Ring. The entire plot revolves around a video tape and a phone call. Naomi Watts has acted very well in this scary thriller.

Halloween
The original Halloween is the father of all bogeyman flicks. This movie is best watched in the festival of Halloween, the story of Mike Myers in this 1978 hit flick still scares the hell out of audiences. Halloween was one of the most profitable and scary movies of all time.

A Nightmare on Elm Street
This story is about a killer who stalks and kills teens in their dreams while they are sleeping, this kills them in real life too. The director films some of the most gruesome killing scenes with such excellence that you want it to view again. Also watch out for a very young Johnny Depp getting eaten by the bed.
