Saying Thank You Makes You Feel Good

While it’s very nice to have others thank us, we feel even better when we say thank you to someone else.
While it’s very nice to have others thank us, it’s even better when we say thank you to someone else.

Have you ever visited a retail store and had someone who was quite helpful assist you? Did you say thank you? When I do encounter a person who is helpful I always try to not only thank them but to also share with them how they’ve helped make my day a bit easier. Truly, the smiles I receive in return are heart warming.

This morning while at Starbucks, the cashier greeted me with a smile, took my order and even said thank you. In return I told her that the headband she was wearing was just adorable. Her face beamed. Taking the time to speak a few words to this stranger who was so friendly in her job led to both of us having huge smiles on our faces.

Have you ever written a quick note to an employer to let them know that their employee went over and beyond? Most of the time employees never know it was me who wrote the letter, but every once in a while if I revisit a store where I’ve written a thank you letter, and if the employee does know me, they will come and thank me with a genuine smile on their face.

Have you ever been helped online and taken the time to write someone and let them know how much you appreciate the help they gave you? While I can not see the smile that my thank you has created online, I can read the emails I get telling me that my thank you made a difference in their day. Again, this is so heart warming.

Looking for the good in others takes so little time. Saying thank you take so little time, yet the rewards to me personally for taking the time to say thank you have been incredible.
