Sauna
Is the sauna another way of pampering yourself or are there any health benefits associated with it? Read on to know more about saunas and why these are in vogue today.

So, what exactly are Saunas?
A sauna is a small room that is used for recreational as well as healing purposes. These small rooms are heated to very high temperatures, which is what causes a person to perspire. The concept is not really modern as one would think. Saunas were evident even during the Stone Age when sweat baths were a common factor. These ancient sweat baths had different names in different cultures and today, it is universally known as the sauna.
Why should one use the Sauna?
Most people use the sauna mainly as a way to relax, but many opt for it for health benefits. If the latter reason is your prime motive for using a sauna, I would suggest you consult your doctor before attempting the same. It is always better to know your body and how it would react to the effects caused by sauna, which may be beneficial to some and not suitable for others.
The skin gets thoroughly cleansed with the use of a sauna. The pores of the skin play a very important role in the cleansing of the system as well. Heat that is created due to the sauna causes the blood vessels to enlarge. This would in turn increase the requirement of the blood to the skin. Heat also causes the body to sweat which is considered to be the safest and the most natural way for the body to heal. Regular sweating helps the body to eliminate the toxins. The heat sessions in a sauna can be wet or dry.
How can a Sauna be beneficial to a person?
As mentioned earlier, saunas help to open up the pores of the skin and subsequently cleanse it. The skin is one such organ that has to face various chemicals in the form of shower gels, shampoos and also put up with household detergents and other irritants. One may not realize the harm it can cause to the skin through these innocent products. It may be beyond our imagination to think about what element could be probably clogging the pores of the skin over the years! This is where heat from the sauna can help to flush out the toxins in the form of sweat. Clean skin would not only be great to look at, it would be great to feel as well. Sweating helps the body heal in various ways; it controls the body temperature and eliminates the toxins as well.
Using a sauna is also considered to be a solution for weight loss. This should also depend upon medical supervision as well. The sauna effect can be considered to be similar to a mild form of exercise (it causes an increased heart rate). To lose weight through the use of a sauna, one would need to keep this as a regular habit and also maintain an appropriate diet along with exercise in order to see glorious results.
Saunas also help one to relax! Well, you would wonder how this would be possible with the amount of perspiration it causes. This is due to the heat that is generated which can help a person to relax. Due to the sweating, the various toxins leave the body. Being stressed out itself creates such toxins that keep us feeling bogged down. Once the body slows down the creation of such elements, it creates the feeling of the elimination of stress from our entire body. Of course, there are various other ways to relax the mind and body and this can itself result in a big debate.
Is the Sauna useful for everybody?
The use of sauna causes an increase in the heart rate, therefore people who have a heart or a blood pressure problem should always consult the doctor beforehand. It is also not clear whether a sauna would prove to be beneficial for pregnant women. When it comes to children, I would suggest you exercise caution as well. Besides, if you have any particular prolonged illness, it would be better to always seek professional help.
For some, the sauna is also a great place to socialize as well! So, if you are new to the city and have literally no reasons to use the sauna, you can just check it out for some interesting people you might bump into!
