Satisfied With A Smile 2
Running off are we?
He went into the blacksmiths and picked up his sword, which had been checked over for flaws, walking back to Shinra he stopped by a tailor who sent a boy to get her measurements. He got the boy to step back as he opened the door but all he caught was the whip of wet blond hair as she jumped out of the window.
"Shit." He ran over and dived out after her even though they were many floors up. He was worried that she wouldn’t survive the fall but she landed as softly as he did instantly taking off as soon as she hit the ground. He ran after her but she was surprisingly fast. She jumped down a manhole and ran down the storm drain, He followed her almost running into a wall in the pitch-blackness. She managed to pull herself out another manhole but Sephiroth showed her up by jumping out of it. They were in the slums now but she had frozen in the middle of the street as around twenty Wutai troops turned to face her. They raised they guns but Sephiroth picked her up and ran into a building dodging the bullets. He slammed the door after him but it wouldn’t hold them for more than a second. The girl struggled against him so he put her down.
"I’m trying to save your life!" he shouted.
"Why?!" She shouted back and for some reason he felt like he knew her.
"Because you are my responsibility." He said and she frowned.
"Why?" Bullets hit the door behind Sephiroth ripping through it and hitting the girl in the shoulder. She looked shocked falling forward in a dead faint. He caught her throwing over one shoulder and running down the corridor and out another door into a street. He looked around panicked, seeing a garage he ran over to it and pulled the keypad off connecting two wires. It fizzled and the door went up to halfway before cutting out with a bang. Sephiroth ducked under and punched through the window of the car inside setting the alarm off, he opened the door and threw the girl into the passenger seat pulling wires from underneath the steering wheel before realising that the keys were in the ignition. He turned them starting the car before backing up and accelerating through the half open door and two Wutai gunmen.
He heard a moan from the girl who was coming awake. He looked at her shoulder that was bleeding freely through her dirty shirt and swore speeding up. He screamed to a halt outside the Shinra building and ran around the other side of the car forgetting that, that door was still locked. Someone grabbed his arm as he was about to break the glass and he turned.
"You can’t park your car here." He punched the guy knocking him out before he hit the ground. He shoved his elbow through the window and opened the door pulling the girl out and carrying her inside. He ran up the stairs to the lifts and took one up to the third floor as soon as he got out he shouted:
"MEDIC!" A doctor turned around and ran over with a rolling bed, which he put the girl on. She wheeled her away and Sephiroth turned and went back out the way he’d come in.
The girl woke a day later tired and finding it hard to keep her eyes open, a blurry image of a hospital room came to her mind and she was instantly awake. What was she doing here? Suddenly she remembered running away from that strange man, she didn’t remember the pain in her shoulder though which grew as she woke up more making her sweat. She gasped and the nurse who was trying to change her I.V called someone. She felt the nurse poke something into her arm but then she was drowning in the white washed walls of the hospital; all that white.
"Wake up…" the girl opened her eyes slowly looking into the nurse’s brown ones.
"Where am I?" she asked dazed.
"The infirmary in Shinra." The nurse said calmly.
"How did I get here?" the nurse lowered the dosage of morphine slightly and sat down.
"Sephiroth brought you in, the bullet you caught clipped a major artery. Without him you’d be dead."
"Sephiroth?" The girl found her vision becoming blurred and collapsed back into her pillows. "Strange name, he’s the one in black with the long white hair."
"Its silver." Said a deeper voice and she looked at the person who’d just entered the room.
"Nah, its white." She laughed hysterically and passed out.
A few days later she woke with a much clearer head, her room was deserted and she found herself disconnected from the I.V which was presumably what had kept her under. She was dressed in a loose shirt and some shorts which accentuated her legs. She laughed a little and swung her legs over the side of the bed. Putting weight on them she found herself gripping the bed as weakness spread from her toes up to her hips. Taking a step she found herself at the end of the bed and two steps away from the door which opened.
"Now I’m not sure about hospital regulations but aren’t you still supposed to be in bed?" She looked up at Sephiroth who smiled.
"I suppose your going to make me." She said in a resigned voice. He whisked her off her feet and laid her back on the bed sitting beside her.
"How are you feeling?" He asked.
"I’m fine, surprisingly actually." He grinned mischievously.
"I healed you, I wasn’t supposed to but…" he made an obtuse gesture.
"Why?" The girl asked
"why what?"
"Why did you bother, saving me, healing me?"
"I was hoping we could be friends." He said.
"Friends?" The girl didn’t think she’d heard him correctly.
"Yeah, which brings me back to my other problem."
"What would that be?"
"I have to train you." The girl thought for long moments about what he was offering and nodded slowly.
"If you’re prepared to put up with me." She said and he laughed.
"It might end up the other way around, now what’s your name?"
"Umm…" she panicked slightly not knowing which name to give, her birth name or her street name. "Night." Sephiroth smiled, that hadn’t been the name he’d heard on the street.
