CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
(SARINA'S P.O.V)
I was nearly falling asleep when Xavier whispered to me that we were almost there, that thought alone was enough to wake me up, I tried to look out the window but since they were tinted and it was dark I could see to much but Xavier laughed
"I'll take you for a drive tomorrow so you can see it all" I smiled and hugged him
"So X are you getting dropped off first?" Bobby asked
"Yes I think so because if I don't and we drive past mum and dads I will have to go in and say hi but I don't feel like it yet" they all laughed, but I picked up that there was more to it then that
"They don't know about me do they?" everyone looked at X now, he shrugged but I just stared at him
"Not exactly" he tried to hug me I pulled away and leveled him with another stare
"Fine I haven't told them yet because I wanted them to meet you first before they could jump to any conclusion about what you were like" I just stared at him till he sighed
"Fine I didn't know how to tell them after all telling your parents that you have found your mate isn't exactly the type of conversation that you have over the phone'
"So what were you going to turn up there tomorrow with me and say 'Hi mum and dad, this is my mate Sarina' I'm sure they would be thrilled" he shrugged and I could tell that everyone was staring at us now, I heard Angus whisper
"Dude look at X, he's the pack leader and he's scared of Sarina's stare" something in that caught my attention and since I was already riled about him not telling his parents about me before he brought me to meet them, I couldn't help but angrily say to him
"You're the pack leader?" he just looked at Angus then me and nodded slightly
"Is there anything else I should know about you?" but before he could answer Paul opened the door, I hadn't even realised that the car had stopped but that didn't stop me from almost jumping out the door once it was open I needed space. Once I got outside I saw a couple standing on the pathway just in front of me
"Mum and Dad?!" Xavier exclaimed and then Zenda, Tilly, Bobby and John who were in view of the door bowed the upper half of their body to Xavier's parents and I had a feeling that it wasn't just out of respect for their elders and I was willing to bet my years pay check that it was linked to Xavier being the leader of their pack.
"Xavier darling" his mother said as Paul bowed to them and hopped back into his car I almost turned and jumped back in and demanded he take me home. His parents looked from Xavier to me expecting an answer to the unasked question that hung in the air. Xavier just stared at his parents and he didn't look like he was planning on talking anytime soon, I took the few steps towards his parents and stuck out my hand to his father first as he was closest
"Hi my name is Sarina and I am a friend of Xavier's I'm sorry but Xavier hasn't told me that much about you guys" his dad looked at me and my outstretched hand and smiled as he shook it
"My name is Ricardus and this is my wife Aweline, its lovely to meet you" I shook Xavier's mothers hand
"It's lovely to meet you as well Mr and Mrs Wulfric and sorry if I am any trouble, you see Xavier is just doing me a favour as I got told a had to take a holiday and my unit wasn't safe so he offered to let me stay with him for a few days"
"She's lying" Xavier finally got his voice back, his parents looked at me questioningly
"Xavier I did not tell one single lie" he paused for a second
"Your right I'm sorry mum and dad she didn't lie she just omitted a key fact"
"What's that key fact son" his father said looking at me cautiously
"Well there are actually a few facts she left out like the only reason she had to take a holiday is because she nearly died as a result of me well us.." he said pointing to his parents and himself, I saw the hummer drive out of sight from the corner of my eye "her unit isn't safe because a Were tried to attack her in her courtyard" his parents both looked at me cautiously now
"Why is someone out to get her, she only human" I raised an eyebrow and obviously his dad saw it "Sorry Sarina I didn't mean it like that I meant that usually out kind don't go after humans" I just nodded and told him it's okay
"Well I do know that they are targeting Sarina because of me but I don't know why they are targeting our family" both his parents just looked even more confused
"So someone is going after your friends' son because of our family?"
"Yes I don't know who she is but she keeps saying that she going to get what me and my own owe her and she said something about the pain my family caused on her and she's not going after my friends"
"I don't know any Were family that we have caused pain and we most certainly do not owe any family any debts!" stated Mr Wulfric in a serious voice then Mrs Wulfric spoke up
"What do you mean she's not going after your friends Xavier? Then... no offence Sarina but then why is she going after Sarina if she isn't your friend?" Xavier took a step towards me and put his arm around my waist and drew me towards him
"Mum and dad she's going after Sarina because she's my mate!" they both looked shocked and his mum was the quickest to recover, she clapped and did a slight happy jump
"I thought so, oh Xavier I am so happy for you and Sarina..." she hugged me tightly "it is lovely to meet you I'm so glad he finally found you please" his dad patted him on the back and said seriously
"But son why didn't you tell as sooner?" I raised my eyebrow at him which made him laugh
"As I said to Sarina when she grilled me in the car about the same thing, I didn't really think it was the kind of conversation you have over the phone" his parents both looked at each other before nodding
"She grilled you?" asked his father
"Yes she told me exactly what she thought about me not warning you guys about her" his mum laughed and said really lightly but I still caught what she said
"I like her Xavier she's perfect" I couldn't stop the blush that spread across my cheeks at her words, both of them looked at me curiously but it was Xavier who spoke
"We have a lot to talk about mum and dad but can we please do it tomorrow Sarina is pretty exhausted" they both didn't take their eyes off me and although neither of their mouths moved I heard his dad ask
'Just answer one question Xavier have you changed her?' I answered the question without thinking
"No, he hasn't changed me I'm still the same old me" now they all looked at me curiously but Xavier was the quickest to respond
"Like I said there is a lot to talk about tomorrow but no I haven't changed her dad" as they said goodnight to Xavier and I, I saw that his parents were looking at me with extreme confusion it was almost like they were trying to figure out what I was, I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable it was like they didn't think I was human. Xavier picked up our bags and headed towards his house as he waved goodbye to his parents whom just stood there until we reached the door and then they walked off in the direction that the Hummer went
"Xavier shouldn't you drive them home?" he just laughed lightly at me
"They prefer another method of transport darling" when I just looked confused he answered my unspoken question "they prefer to run on all fours around here" it took me a few seconds to get what he meant by that because I was tired
"Oh but don't the humans around here get freaked out?"
"The only humans around here are in on the secret so no, they don't get freaked out" I just nodded as I took a good look at his house
"Wow Xavier this place is huge and amazing" he smiled as he picked up the bags and walked through the door into a huge living area, I followed him down the corridor and into the master bedroom it was huge, I couldn't help but gasp as I saw it, the bed alone was twice the size of my queen sized bed back home.
"Do you like it Sar?"
"You live here?" he just nodded "okay I have a feeling that this size house isn't normal for the pack" he just shrugged, I took a deep breath so I didn't lose my temper "okay what are you not telling my Xavier?" he sighed and looked straight into my eyes as he spoke and I had to focus intensely on what he was saying because I was getting lost in his eyes
"Well it isn't normal for the pack members to have such a large house and this one is reserved for the next pack leader or the prince" I just looked at him stunned
"You mean to tell me that you're the prince? Your mum and dad are the... oh my gosh" he winced at my words as I said them more sharply then I intended to
"Sar I'm sorry I just didn't want you to be more nervous than you already were about meeting my parents, imagine how bad you would have been if you meet them knowing who they are" I sighed
"Fine but if you ever lie to me about something like that again Xavier I won't be as forgiving" he hugged me but I didn't respond for several moments then once I had calmed down I hugged him back
"I'm sorry baby; I promise I will never lie to you again" I nodded and collapsed on the bed. Xavier bent down and took off my shoes, I was to tired to even try to help him it was almost like meeting his parents and finding everything out about Xavier had drained me of all my energy
"Do you want to get changed before going to bed baby?" I opened my eyes slightly
"Can I just borrow one of your shirts, I'm so tired".
(XAVIER'S P.O.V)
I walked over to my closet and pulled out one of my gym shirts and a pair of boxers, I went to the bathroom while Sarina changed and brought out two toothbrushes, just to give our teeth a little brush, over the last few days I noticed that she had this obsession with brushing her teeth at least twice a day sometimes she would even brush them a third time.
"Thanks X" she smiled as she took the toothbrush and the cup of water from me, she looked so cute dressed in one of my shirts that were way to big for her, it came to about her mid-thigh. As we brushed our teeth I was thinking about Sarina and how she had heard what dad had telepathically told me earlier and how her hearing had improved a lot lately, if I didn't know any better I would think she was turning, but that wasn't possible unless...
"Sarina, do you have any scars or marks that you didn't have before you got kidnapped?" she looked at me quizzically
"Umm... no, not that I know of..." I tried to keep the urgency out of my voice so I didn't frighten her
"I need you to be sure, Sarina" she did a quick check of her body as I stood there and tried to calm my breathing, if one of them had bitten her, it would probably kill her, only a human's mate could turn them, if a Were who wasn't the humans mate tried to turn them it would most likely result in the death of the human as their body rejected the change. She finished her check of herself and looked at me seriously.
"No, there aren't anymore scars and marks on my body other than the ones I have always had or got as a child" now that I knew they hadn't bitten her I relaxed, but something she said caught my attention.
"What marks have you always had?" she smiled and hopped onto the bed and patted the spot beside her, I climbed into the bed and wrapped my arms around her as we laid down
"I guess it's kind of a birthmark, but it's a little bit lighter and I suppose considering current company it's kind of ironic"
"Is it a love heart?" she smiled
"I wish!" now I was curious, when she didn't answer for a while I couldn't help but ask again.
"What is it then?" she laughed and I had a feeling that she had been waiting for me to admit my curiosity.
"Don't get me wrong. It's not that I don't like it, it's just that I never wore bikinis when I was younger because I hated the questions people would ask" she turned to look at me "are you sure you want to see it Xavier?" how bad could a birth mark be
"Of course I'm sure darling, it's probably so small no one ever notices it but you" she laughed and pulled away from me and pulled up the back of the shirt to show her lower back, I was speechless. Her birthmark was a perfect picture of a wolf howling at a full moon
"See what I mean, ironic?" she laughed, but I didn't say anything I just stared at the mark, she tried to pull her shirt down
"Wait, I just want to have a look." she didn't say anything but she slowly lifted her shirt back up again, I couldn't take my eyes off it, she was right about people noticing it, the mark took up her whole lower back and the shape of it was so perfect that people would question it was real. Suddenly a story my mother once told me came to mind, it was the story of the Matiazwi pack came to mind, I jumped of the bed quickly
"I have to go" Sarina looked at me confused then the hurt was obvious in her eyes
"I didn't expect you to react like that, Xavier." she got off the bed and grabbed her stuff as she headed towards the bathroom
"Sarina, what are you doing?" I moved towards her but she stepped backwards.
"I'm not going to run you out of your own house, Xavier, I am going to get dressed and maybe stay with Xenara or one of the other girls for the night before I catch a bus home tomorrow" I took another step towards her only to have her back off another two
"Sarina stop!" she looked at me suddenly and I could see she was fighting tears, I wanted nothing more than to hold her in my arms and assure her everything was okay but I knew she would only retreat further and also I needed to talk to my parents urgently
"What is it, Xavier?"
"Sarina, your birthmark doesn't freak me out, but it did make me remember something I urgently have to talk to my parents about, I promise you I love your birthmark and your right it is kind of ironic. I want you to stay right there in that bed and I promise you that as soon as I have talked to my parents I will tell you everything okay? Just let me talk to them first" she looked at me searchingly for several seconds before she put her stuff down and took a step towards me, I took the last few steps towards her and hugged her tightly.
"Are you sure it doesn't freak you out?" she asked quietly.
"No, I promise you it doesn't and as soon as I get back I will tell you what I need to talk to my parents about, okay?" I felt her nod and slowly let go of me.
"Okay, but promise me you will come back after you talk to them." I kissed her on the forehead.
"I promise I will be back as soon as possible." She smiled and turned to hop back into the bed.
"I will see you soon then."
"See you soon darling" As I walked out the door I made sure I had my keys and locked all the doors, normally I wouldn't bother locking the doors because we knew everyone who lived here and we all knew that if you went into someone's house without their permission they would pick up your scent, but I still felt better knowing that no one could easily get to Sarina. Once I attached the keys to my bracelet I took of my boxers and put them beside the door and changed, beside each house in this area was a weather proof box that held a pair of clothes for each Were that visited that house so I didn't have to worry about taking clothes with me, my father soon found carrying a change of clothes with you constantly to be very cumbersome, so he had implemented the rule when he was first made king and it had been in place ever since. I took the long way to my parents' house because I loved the feeling of being completely free, my thoughts turned to Sarina while I was running; thoughts that one day she would be able to run with me like this, thoughts of little things she did and then the most pressing thought, of her birthmark. I wish I had paid more attention to my mother when she told me the story of the Matiazwi pack, because if I was right with my hypothesis then Sarina's life was in for a drastic change, but I didn't want to freak her out completely or get her hopes up till I knew for sure.
