Sandwiches Sent from Heaven

Sandwich, a portion of meat or vegetable fillings placed between two slices of bread. Although sandwiches have been prepared for hundreds and hundreds of years now, it only got its name somewhere in the 18th century. Here's the take on sandwiches.
Today's modest chicken sandwich play what you would call a 'dual-role' in serving as a snack time item and as the perfect example of the progress in local flavors and tastes. Undoubtedly, the impact of the sandwich, or rather the chicken sandwich, and all its other culinary counterparts has indeed taken the world by storm. Sandwich recipes can differ greatly, in their ingredients as well as in their style. But keep in mind that, not all styles will go with every ingredient.

Chicken Sandwich

Ingredients
  • Chicken slices
  • Onion, slices
  • Butter, room temperature
  • Olive oil
  • Bread slices
  • 1 teaspoon steak sauce
  • Cheddar cheese, shredded
Directions

Place the slices of chicken between sections of waxed paper and then pound it till it becomes about ¼ of an inch in thickness. In a saucepan, fry some onion slices along with butter and olive oil. Once the onions soften, take them out from the saucepan and then place the chicken in the saucepan and cook it for about 5 to 10 minutes, both sides or until it is well done.

Place the bread slices on a baking sheet and spread about a teaspoon of steak sauce on each slice. After doing this, layer the slices with the cooked chicken and onion slices, and some shredded cheese. And lo and behold! You have your very own basic chicken sandwich.

Island Chicken Sandwich

Ingredients
  • 1 cup cooked chicken, chopped
  • 1/3 cup of apricots, chopped
  • 1/3 cup water chestnuts, chopped
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
Directions

Start by pressing the apricots between paper napkins even before you start chopping them. This is done so as to remove any excess moisture. Next, place all the remaining ingredients between two slices of bread. Slice away the crusts and then cut the slices into tiny tea sandwiches.

To make the best sandwich ever, make sure that the bread you use is soft so that it is easier to slice and gives neater edges. Using butter or margarine will protect the bread from moisture that is generally contained in most spreads.

Cucumber Sandwich

The sandwich basically came about and evolved as a means of eating without the help of utensils. But, as the years progressed, the sandwich also evolved as something more than just a snack of convenience. Over the years, the cucumber sandwich, like the chicken sandwich, became a big part of everybody's day-to-day existence and diet. Over the years, the fillings and styles of this sandwich have changed.

For most of us, teatime is probably the most special time of the day. Taking a teat time break helps give us that much-awaited breather and it's that time of the day where we can just eat, drink and of course be merry! so, here a recipe for a cucumber sandwich to have during tea time.

Ingredients
  • 1 cucumber, sliced
  • Cheese slices
  • Onion, sliced
  • Cream cheese
  • Olives, cut
  • Bread slices
  • Garlic powder
  • Celery, chopped
  • Salt and pepper, for taste
Directions

Peel the cucumbers and then slice them into thin slices. When making the cheese spread, keep the slices between paper napkins to drain excess moisture. In a container, mix the onions, olives, cream cheese, pepper, garlic powder, celery, and salt. Stir until this mixture is well blended. Layer the slices of bread with a fairly thick coating of the cream cheese spread. Add another layer of the cucumber slices. On the remaining bread slices, spread some butter and then cover with the cucumber slices and layers of cheese.

Egg Sandwich

To prepare this sandwich, the quantity of the ingredients will depend on you. The number of sandwiches you wish to make, the ingredients will increase and alter.

  • Eggs
  • Layers of ham
  • Onion, sliced
  • Swiss or Provolone cheese
  • Salt and pepper, for taste
  • Butter, room temperature
  • Bread slices
Directions

Melt a dash of butter on the grill. Fry the eggs until the yolks are all well cooked. Once this is done, grill some ham. Add the layers of ham, egg, onion, cheese, salt and pepper on a slice of bread. Cover this bread slice with another slice to make a sandwich. Melt some butter on a grill and fry both the sides of the sandwich until the bread turns brown and the cheese melts. And, you are now ready to eat your egg sandwich!

And sandwich fillings can be just as creative - from tuna fillings to pork fillings - there is just no end to how much you can experiment with them.
