Sanctuary of Lovers - Part 1

And another one. This one came to me while listening to 'Medieval Baebes - Say It's Not So' song.
Synopsis

Emelin, a healer at the sacred sanctuary lives a normal, undisturbed life. What happens when victims of an attack are transported to the sanctuary and a special someone is put under Emelin's care?

Part 1

I watch the everlasting snowfall accumulate in piles across the horizon. I have been in the sanctuary since I was a mere five winters. I play with a strand of my white-blonde hair , a habit that I have been trying to get rid of for as long as I can remember.
"Emelin, Great Victoria needs your assistance this instant!" A fellow healer calls from a nearby window.
That can only mean one thing.
Wounded flesh.
I make my way back into the warmth of the sanctuary, snowflakes following my path.

The history of the sanctuary is very ancient. According to Great Victoria (The head healer) the sanctuary itself was created thousands of years ago. It is even said to have been forged by the goddesses themselves. The place was at first a monastery but soon it turned into a healer's academy (The monastery is on the east wing of the building). The sanctuary is on the peak of the highest mountain of the Thwyrdill mountains. I myself have ascended ranks and am now sitting in the master category which I proudly display with a badge that is tied to my right arm. Every healer is given one to signify their status. There is an initiate which is represented by a star. The novice's badge has a rose, while the apprentice (who serves a master) has a blank badge. The master badge is an eye. Masters usually have more privileges than other levels, like visiting family that lives in distant lands and even taking a vacation.
Life is sure good as a healer.

"And that is all for today, you may tend the assigned patient."
Great Victoria's wrinkled eyes close in prayer to the goddesses, something she does when a patient is in deathbed. I bow and exit Great Victoria's office.

I have to descend a thousand stairs before getting to the sick's quarters. My uniform which consists of a heavy red skirt and a white shirt is not helping me climb the staircase gracefully as I could trip any moment. I sigh when I finally get to the last step. I push open the heavy wooden door and brace myself for an agonizing time with a patient that is half delirious. In the hallways, novices and initiates alike are rushing in and out of rooms, fetching bandages and ale for the sick and injured. My patient's room is at the end of the hall, specifically on the right side. I groan internally and walk towards the room. The other lower levels gaze at my badge and lower their eyes in respect. I let a satisfactory smirk cross my lips.

When I push open the door of the patient's door, I gasp under my breath. In the bed is someone who I thought I would never see again.
It is my childhood friend, William Stoneheart who is near death.

I have spent most of the morning by William's side, holding his hand and using my magic to alleviate some of his pain. His red hair is plastered with sweat against his forehead. I do recall seeing his green eyes more alive than they are right now.
"Who are you miss?" He asks, obviously not recognizing me under the feverish effect.
Great Victoria had been right, these patients had received nasty wounds either inflicted by the sword or arrows. William's wound which is located in his neck seems to be caused by an arrow, a dirty one at that.
"Do you not remember me, it is I, Emelin of Whitetower?" I reply.
"Oh it's you, never thought I see you again."
He is sweating buckets and soon he will lose consciousness (SP?)
I try to alter the process by using some of my magic to soothe him into a less painful sleep.
"Sweet dreams old friend." I whisper as I close my eyes too, and began to pray to the goddesses.
I myself fall into a dreamless sleep beside him on a stiff, wooden chair.
