Samsung Plasma TV Ratings and Reviews

I discuss how Samsung plasma TVs are rated by over 500 actual owners. Picture quality, build quality, image retention, burn in and more are covered.
Considering getting a Samsung plasma TV? If so, I have some information that you should be aware of.

My research team collected information from at least 520 actual Samsung plasma television owners. The sources for this data were nearly one hundred different online discussion boards, which tend to be excellent places to find unbiased and helpful product information. The high sample size and diverse sources mean that our findings are accurate.

Picture Quality

Nearly all owners were pleased with the overall picture quality, including the accuracy and vibrancy of the colors, brightness, contrast and clarity. Overall, owners liked how the TVs displayed black color, but a significant number said that blacks were grainy or noisy.

While virtually all owners were impressed with how their televisions showed high definition(HD), many were less than impressed with how the TVs displayed standard definition (SD). Over half of those owners who commented on the issue rated SD as average or worse.

Screen glare can be a problem with plasma TVs, and it was somewhat of an issue to Samsung owners, according to our research. While not a widespread complaint, a noteworthy portion of owners were not pleased with how much their screen reflected light.

Image retention and burn-in can also be issues with plasmas. In regard to image retention, a fair number of owners voiced displeasure. In regard to burn-in, the number of complaints was much smaller but still large enough to be noteworthy. Samsung, by the way, does not cover burn in under its warranty.

Motion blur was not a problem to speak of with the Samsung, nor was difficulty watching the TV from various angles without losing good picture quality.

Ease of Use, Speaker Sound Quality and Appearance

Owners considered the TV easy to set up and use. Nearly half the owners who commented on the issue would like the remote control to be better, however.

By a margin of 2-1, the owners disapproved of the sound quality of the built-in speakers. In regard to the appearance of the television, that is, how it appears as furniture, owners often were enthusiastically pleased.

Reliability

What about the quality and reliability of the Samsung plasmas? Problems and defects were reported, such as buzzing noise and heat issues. The fairly high number of problems with the TVs is the main reason overall satisfaction with Samsung plasmas was not higher. (See below.) Samsung's customer service is not acceptable, according to the vast majority of plasma owners who reported having contact with it.

Owner Satisfaction Rating

The bottom line is that, based on our data, 87% of the Samsung plasma owners were satisfied with their TV.
