Samsung J600 - Martin's Quick Review
Samsung's sleek slider effort is climbing the charts. We take a closer look to see if it will be love at first touch.
The Samsung J600 looks like a top-end mobile, and feels just as good to use. The sleek and slim outer casing features a catchy chrome trim that adds to the phone’s stunning appearance. The high resolution, full-colour screen, measuring 1.9 inches, is visible while the phone is open or closed and the smoothly integrated navigation pad sits just below the screen, making it easy to use most of the features without opening the keypad. Unlike most mobiles at this price level, the J600 has touch-sensitive keys that add to the usability of this stylish handset. The keys illuminate when touched, enhancing the phone’s already remarkable design.
The slide mechanism opens smoothly to reveal an attractive and colourful keypad. With the predictive text feature, texting is fun and simple on the J600. The user interface was created for convenience and functionality with features to fully customize the menu settings and controls.
The J600 is not just an easy to use mobile phone with a head-turning design, it also includes most of the common mobile phone features. Personal organization is at the touch of your fingers with a phone book, calendar, and other convenient applications and you can conveniently transfer data to and from your handheld computer or your laptop through the USB port or wirelessly via Bluetooth technology.
Without auto focus or any type of flash, the 1.3 megapixel camera leaves something to be desired but with such a great looking phone at an economical price, most users aren’t complaining. The J600 supports picture identification through the contacts and records video as well. Pictures and videos can be shared through all types of messaging support.
The music player, however, measures up to the J600’s classy appearance. Supporting all the common file formats, it is easy to download new tunes or transfer your favourites from your computer. The integrated FM radio provides exceptional sound and can be enjoyed with wireless headphones. The J600 only contains 20 MB of internal memory, but the storage options are limitless with the use of the MicroSD memory slot.
The Samsung J600 lacks some of the modern features found in high-end mobiles, like fast EDGE connectivity, and could have a more impressive camera, but the J600 has everything the average mobile user needs with an astoundingly beautiful design and a very affordable price. Overall, the Samsung J600 is a terrific value for an eye-catching, gorgeous handset that delivers.
