Rumors and Speculations about the Galaxy S3
Samsung announced its Android smartphone, the Galaxy S, in March 2010, and launched it in June 2010. Then they announced the successor to Galaxy S - Galaxy S II, in February, 2011, and followed it up with its launch in Q2 2011. The quick follow-up by Samsung again hints at the fact that the life of smartphones has been shortened by a great extent. But does that mean we will get to see the successor to Samsung Galaxy S II this year? Recently, the President of Samsung's mobile division Mr. J.K. Shin gave a hint that the company is all set to announce Galaxy S III as the successor to Galaxy S II in the first half of 2012. That being said, the United States is yet to see the S2 - which is slated for a release somewhere in mid-September. This also means that the Samsung fans in the US will have to wait for some more time before they get their hands on this upcoming Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy S3 Specs
Going by the previous two releases, it's but obvious that Samsung is opting for a 6-8 month time frame between two handset releases; unlike a yearlong gap as in case of the Apple iPhone. Taking into consideration the fact that Galaxy S II is armed with a 1.2 GHz processor on board, it would be least surprising to see Galaxy S III with at least a 1.8 GHz processor - or perhaps a 2 GHz processor, on board. With such a powerful processor, the data processing speed of Galaxy S III is bound to be somewhat like a full-fledged PC. While HTC and LG have come up with 3D enabled smartphones of their own, Samsung is expected to join the league with Galaxy S III; even the name of this device hints at the chances of the next generation Galaxy S being 3D compatible. Other Samsung Galaxy S3 rumors also suggest that the smartphone will be equipped with features which will make it a true iPhone 5 competitor.
Apple-Samsung Lawsuit
And that's not all, as we also get to hear that the much awaited touchless gesture technology which was supposed to make its debut with the iPhone 5 most likely in 2012, is now coming out on Samsung Galaxy S III this coming fall. Earlier on 15th April, 2011, Apple filed a lawsuit against Samsung alleging that the latter is copying the design of Apple iPhone and implementing it in its own range of smartphones, thus trying to confuse the end consumer in believing that its smartphones are quite similar to the Apple device. Experts of the field are of the opinion that Apple's patent-infringment lawsuit has come in response to Samsung introducing the touchless gestures technology in Galaxy S III which will reduce Apple iPhone 5 to a damp squib.
There is no doubt that Samsung will put in all the efforts to capitalize on the ongoing Android wave, and the fact that it has threatened Apple in response to its patent lawsuit aptly backs this belief. At the end of the day, Android smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S II have given iPhone 4 a run for the money. If Samsung does release Samsung Galaxy S III before Apple manages to come up with the iPhone 5, it is bound to get an advantage over its competitor. With no official announcement about the Samsung Galaxy S3 release date or specifications, we are left with no option but to wait and try to decipher these rumors about the next generation Galaxy S which are increasing by the day.
