Lyric greatness inherited,
Passion felt, expressed
And passed --
Centuries and centuries
Of great poetry
Frees,
And leaves
Not a stone untouched.
Shakespeare's wise music,
Chaucer's wit;
Donne's controlled violence,
The melancholy of Keats ...
Or --
You could
Revel in --
Marvel's profundity, and
Blake's symbolism;
Stephen's searching of his soul,
Or Lawrence's passionate call.
Poets,
Poetry,
Lyric,
Lyricism.
The haven's always been enough
To lift a fallen King!
