Ryan O’Neal Denies Drug Use

O’Neal’s lawyer, Mark Werksman, said Thursday, "The drugs found were not his. He would never use them. O’Neal, 67, and Redmond, 23, were arrested early Wednesday after a search of their home found drugs believed to be methamphetamines. Father and son were released that afternoon after posting $10,000 bail each. Werksman said of O’Neal, "He’s tried to lead a peaceful life. He’s acting and he’s caring for his family and this is the last thing he ever wanted or expected."

The Malibu home was searched Wednesday morning for a routine sweep making sure Redmond is sticking to the terms of his probation. He was placed on three years probation earlier this year after pleading guilty to two drug possession felonies. During the sweep officers reportedly found drugs in the living room and a vial of drugs in O’Neal’s bedroom. Both men were taken into custody and released on bail. Prosecutors will determine whether or not charges will be pressed against the actor and his son.

Werksman said that O’Neal was "shaken up" by the arrests and said, "We know that when all the facts come out, he should not be charged with any crime here." There has been no word on who is representing the younger O’Neal. Redmond is the son of O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett. Ryan O’Neal has two other children from his first wife, Joanna Moore, actor Griffin O’Neal and actress Tatum O’Neal. In July, Tatum was arrested for allegedly trying to buy drugs near her home in New York City.
