Run-away Summer (Chapter 4)
What more can go wrong? Thanks for all the comments, and I hope ya'll enjoy this chapter. Please comment and let me know if I should continue with the story.
A blank screen
For a writer this spells disaster. The computer screen was naked with a little black line that wouldn’t stop blanking, mocking Summer of her writer’s block. The only thing she could do was return the same blank stare.
Feeling the rise of tension, she twirled a red lock around her index finger, and begins biting her lower lip. To others writers block might not be such a big deal but to her it felt like her profession was coming to an end. Quickly she placed the laptop off her lap and sat it on her bed. She ran her hands through her auburn hair then fell back onto the comfy queen size bed.
Why is this happening to me? Summer whispered into thin air.
Usually she was open and ready for whatever came to mind, but this time it was different and she knew why.
It was because of him
It was because she hadn’t seen him in a week,
She hadn’t seen him since he accused her of acting like an evil bitch. Well he didn’t exactly say that, but she was sure that’s what he meant.
She hadn’t seen him since the day he cried tears over their now ending friendship.
She missed his smile, his laugh, and his crystal blue eyes that captured her heart from the first time she had seen them.
Then suddenly a quote popped into her head. She quickly retrieved her laptop and begins to write the first quote that came to mind.
"Why does love begin with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a tear drop?"
"Finally it’s finished." Summer eyes scanned over the quote one last time, with her finger hovering over the send button.
~~~~~
Nysir sat at his mahogany desk in a small office building called the McKenzie Brothers Construction Company. After Nysir decided to move to the small town called Avery, Mr. McKenzie had retired and signed the business over to his sons. Nysir had just graduated with a Bachelor degree in Business Management and a Masters of Science in Accountancy. So Mr. McKenzie signed partial ownership to Nysir also. Nysir job involves accounting, auditing, and budgeting.
Knock Knock Knock.
"Come in!"
"Mr. Collins, there’s a Nancy on line three," said the receptionist Kelly.
"Tell her I’m busy."
The damn woman has become a pest that won’t go away since Cam’s wedding. She was a nice girl but to Hollywood for his taste.
She had the big hair, dramatic makeup, tight sparkly cloths, and fake breast. She just wasn’t his type. He preferred a plain look with a naturally beautiful face, soft perky breast that’s real, and a warm genuine smile.
He just realized he describe Summer.
He reached into his gray slacks and pulled out a small beat up black wallet. It was the wallet Summer had brought him several years ago. Slowly he opened the wallet and inside was an 18-year-old girl with soft looking red curls crowning her face and big golden eyes. He ran two fingers down the picture with a smile hinting at his lips. He remembered this day all so well.
It was her 18th birthday; he had brought her a small cake, a dozen of balloons, and he cooked her favorite dish (Shrimp Alfredo, with a small glass of apple cider). He brought her a slow jam CD that featured her favorite song (I swear, by All 4 One). Together they danced the night away.
Mr. Collins, sorry to disturb you but Ms. Nancy has called again and she’s on line 1.
Thanks Kelly.
I closed the wallet, put it back in my pocket and reached for the phone. I barked out a loud agitated HELLO.
~~~~~~~~
POV Summer
Summer stood in front of the full-length mirror to check herself over one last time. She decided on a gray sassy tie back halter dress that has a crossover front, and a hidden zipper to ensure a secure fit around her small petite waist. The bottom of the dress was slightly flared with a bubble hem. It stopped right above her knees to showcase her beautiful legs. She applied a tab of lip-gloss to her full pink lips. Then ran her hands through her hair to create a wild but sexy look. Finally she slipped into a pair of navy blue 4-inch peek toe heels with a pleated cross front.
"Summer you look yummy yummy," I said to myself than put some of my belongings in my navy blue, white, and gray zebra print clutch. I turned off the light and exited the room.
~~~~~~~~~
POV Nysir
"No Nancy, I have a lot of work to do."
"Well I can come over and help you. Umm… have you ever had sex in your office?" said the sultry voice on the other end of the phone.
"Look Nancy I have to go."
"Wait… what’s wrong? You seem like you were interested in me at the wedding, but now your giving me the cold shoulder."
The voice went from sultry to winy in mere seconds.
"Its not you, its me, I have a lot on my mind, and I need some space that’s all."
"No you didn’t use the its not you its me line?"
"Nanc-"
"You know what Nysir fuck you. I can get any man I want. I’m a successful sexy business woman, and I don’t have time for your sorry ass."
Her voice went from sultry to winy to angry in one minute.
Women.
I shook my head as I heard another curse word than the dial tone.
"Mr. Collins, Mr. McKenzie would like a word with you in his office."
"Sure, and Kelly can you hold all of my calls this afternoon?"
"Sure sir anything else?"
"No that’s all, thank you."
I left my office and walked to the end of the hallway to Joe’s office.
Knock Knock Knock
"Come in," said Joe.
"What sup you wanted me."
"Yeah are you busy?"
"Not really why what sup?"
"Well my mom wanted me to grab a couple of things from the store for Sunday dinner tomorrow night, but I’m swamped in work."
"Cool so you want me to do it?"
"Yeah can you?"
"Sure, where’s the list."
"You have to stop at moms house to get it."
"Ard, but I have to stop pass my dad place, and than go home to change. So tell her I’ll be there in a hour."
"Thanks Nas."
"Yeah yeah yeah, you know I wouldn’t had said no to your mom anyway." I chuckled and walked out of his office.
"Kelly I’m taking the rest of the day off. If an important call come through transfer it to my cell, other than that just take a message."
"Alright sir, have a good day."
"Thanks, you too."
Kelly is an energetic, smart woman, and a great receptionist. She has been with this company for three years. She’s loving and beautiful. Hopefully Joe come to his senses and realizes that before someone else does. He acts like I don’t know he got a thing for her. He might not have told me, but I knew him for so long and can tell it’s more than physical just by the way he looks at her.
Who am I to give someone advise; I can’t even fix this mess I’ve stumbled into.
~~~~~~~~~~
POV Summer
I brace myself and slowly walk down the stairs. I can hear the front door opening and can’t help to wonder whom it might be. It’s probably Joe, I say to myself, because Cameron hasn’t come home yet from his honeymoon with Lauren. Finally, I reach the bottom step.
Oh no, it’s not Joe
My legs froze right there as I stare into a pair of blue eyes that belongs to my one true love. My mother rushed out of the kitchen to hug Nas.
Knowing me, I couldn’t help but to rank my eyes over his hard solid body. His light green polo button-up shirt outlined his broad back and wide chest perfectly. His strong arms and shoulders look like they were made to sweep me off my feet, and to protect me.
And his hands, ohh… don’t get me started on his hands. They’re so soft and big. I wonder what they would feel like if he smacked me firmly on the ass from being a bad girl.
What is wrong with you summer? You’re sitting here fantasying about a man hands.
I guess you can say I got it bad.
I than realize the first three buttons of his shirt is undone, exposing skin that has my mouth watering. His hair was slightly damp, which made it look sleek and shiny in the sunlight.
Damn I want him
Ohh I need him
Just want to taste him
Grip that tight firm ass while he’s pus-"
"Hello earth to Summer, snap out of it child."
My mother snapped her finger in my face. I blinked.
"I’m sorry what did you say mom?"
Eww this is too freaky. I just sat here fantasying about a guy in front of my mom. At least I didn’t start touching myself right here, right now right in fr-
"I said I want you to go with Nas to the grocery store to pick me up a couple of things."
"What?"
"Child what is wrong with you? I want you to go to the store with Nysir."
"I-"
I couldn’t tell her that Nas probably doesn’t want me to tag along with him. It hurts just thinking about it.
"That’s okay Mrs. McKenzie, I can handle it on my own."
I felt my heart brake into tiny little pieces. I was right he didn’t want me to go.
"Nonsense child, Summer will go with you, right Summer?"
I looked at my mother eager expression and stiffly nodded a yes.
"Told you, now ya’ll get out of here."
I kissed my mom on the cheek than collected the money and grocery list from her hand.
"By the way you look beautiful Darling."
I’m sure at this very moment my cheeks must be a bright red color. I wanted to scream out (mom you don’t give your daughter a compliment in front of a guy especially if he didn’t, it makes her look pathetic).
Then she turns to face Nysir.
"Don’t you think so Nysir?"
I ducked my head and practically ran out the front door before I could hear his response.
I am so going to kill her later on.
I strutted back and forth across the porch till I heard my name being called.
"Red are we taking your car or mine?"
I just looked at him.
"Don’t call me that."
"Whatever, I guess it doesn’t matter. Hop in."
He held the door open to his red Benz and allowed me to slip in before closing the door behind me.
"Oh and Red, you do look very beautiful today."
Did I hear him right? Did he just give me a compliment?
Say something, say something my mind screamed.
"Thank you." I murmured than looked out the window.
I already know, coward move right!
~~~~~~~
The entire ride to the store was silent as tension filled the air.
No words were exchanged, no stolen glances toward each other, no music was playing, and all you heard was the uneven breaths each of them released.
Finally!
They both thought to each other as they pulled up at Fresh Grocers Supermarket.
Summer started to walk toward the shopping carts stacked in a straight line right outside of the market.
"I’ll get the cart," said Nysir
"I got it." Summer kept walking in the direction of the carts with Nysir right on her trail.
"I said I’ll get it red."
"Well I got it Nas."
Nas jumps in front of Summer so he could reach the shopping cart first.
"Nas move and get out of my way."
Summer placed her hand on her hip and poked out her bottom lip.
"Sorry red, but I don’t want you to hurt yourself trying to push a heavy cart around with those shoes on."
He laughed than pointed to her shoes.
Typical male, she whispered.
Typical female, he replied back.
"Fine red, you can push the cart, but don’t expect me to push it when it gets heavy and your feet starts hurting."
"Whatever."
Summer stepped in front of him and took the cart. She walked away swaying her hips from left to fight with a whole lot of attitude.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two hour later
Summer would never admit that Nas was right about her feet hurting while walking around pushing a cart full of food
Damn shoes.
I must be getting punished or something, and who told my mom to put two months worth of food on this list. We were only supposed to have picked up the items she would cook tomorrow for dinner.
"Did you hear me red?"
"I’m sorry what did you say Nas?"
"I said are you going to help me carry the bags over to the car or sit here looking pretty?"
I can’t help him, don’t want to help him because I can barely walk, but instead I bit my lip and picked up a bag.
"I was playing Red, go to the car and sit, I’ll get the bags." Nysir chuckled while trying to take the bags from summer.
"I got it Nas."
"Summer will you stop acting silly and give me the damn bag."
"First off I’m not acting silly and I said I got it."
Summer took off walking across the parking lot toward the car when the most embarrassing thing happens.
Summer could hear Nas outrages laugh from across the parking lot.
Why does this keep happening to me?
~~~~~~~~~~~~
POV Nysir
I stood there watching Summer strut her stuff over to the car. I knew she was in pain with those darn heels on, but still she flicks her hair and walks with her nose up. She was one stubborn girl.
So as I watched her the unthinkable happens. The heel of her shoe brakes causing her to slip and falls right on her soft bottom. You can tell she tried to reach out and grab something by the way her arms were swinging in the air. It’s a darn shame, I said to myself. Her face turned a bright red the same color as her hair. I knew it was wrong, but I couldn’t stop laughing. Then her face was buried into the palm of her hands and her shoulders shook uncontrollably.
Oh no she’s crying.
I rush over there and without thinking; I lift her into my arms. She starts kicking, pouting, and shouting like a baby.
"Let me go Nas, I hate you, I hate you. You did this to me you asshole."
Two curse-outs in one day, so not cool Nysir. I say to myself.
Anyway, I ignore her little tantrum and hold her tighter right there in the middle of the parking lot.
Finally, two minutes later she calms down. She doesn’t slap me and call me an asshole. She doesn’t shout and beg me to release her so I squeeze her closer to me while she sobs on my chest.
Its okay red, it’s going to be okay. Maybe you can glue it back on?
She cries much harder now.
I gently push a red lock behind her ear and softly kiss her cheek.
Suddenly her body goes stiff in my arms, under my lips.
She looks up at me with glossy golden eyes. Her lips parted as if they were giving me permission to kiss her senseless.
Should I or should I not?
Damn I want to but it’s not the right time. So instead I put her and the bags in the car and drive her home.
As I begin to drive I shakes my head.
Women are some complicated, mood swinging; stubborn creatures, but yet us men can’t live without them.
Umm…umm… it’s a damn shame.
