Rum is a distilled beverage prepared from sugarcane by-products like molasses and sugarcane juice after being fermented and distilled. It is generally combined with fresh fruit juices and other liquors to form different cocktail drinks. It comes in varying types like golden and dark, light and premium rum. Light rum is mainly used in cocktails, while dark and premium rum is either consumed straight or used in cooking. However, while making rum mixed drinks be careful of not using light or dark rum as a substitute for each other, as it may spoil your drinks' taste and you won't be able to enjoy that ultimate sipping pleasure, which you will have otherwise. So, here are some classic and simple rum mixed drink recipes, that will surely make your mouth water.

Drinks with Rum

Bahama Mama
Ingredients:
  • Dark rum, ½ oz
  • Coconut liqueur, ½ oz
  • Rum, ¼ oz
  • Coffee liqueur, ¼ oz
  • Lemon juice, ½ oz
  • Pineapple juice, 4 oz
  • Maraschino cherry, to garnish
Pour all the ingredients into an ice-filled highball glass. Stir well and garnish with a cherry.

Fire Island Sunrise
Ingredients:
  • White rum, 1 shot
  • Vodka, 1 shot
  • Orange juice, 1 shot
  • Sweet and sour, 1 shot
  • Cranberry juice splash
  • Orange slice, to garnish
In an ice-filled Collins glass, pour all the alcohols and then add the orange juice and sweet and sour. Add cranberry juice to form a "sunrise" and garnish with an orange slice.

Between the Sheets
Ingredients:
  • Brandy, 1 oz
  • Cointreau, 1 oz
  • Light rum, 1 oz
  • Fresh lemon juice, 1 tsp
Take a mixing glass full of crushed ice and pour the ingredients into it. Shake and strain the drink into an ice-filled rocks glass or cocktail glass.

Cuba Libre
Ingredients:
  • Golden rum, 1½ oz
  • Fresh lime juice, 1 tsp
  • Cola, to top
  • Lime wedge, to garnish
Pour the lime juice and rum into an ice-filled highball glass, top with cola and stir. Garnish with lime and serve chilled.

Blue Hawiian
Ingredients:
  • Cream of coconut, 1 oz
  • Blue Curacao, 1 oz
  • Pineapple juice, 2 oz
  • Light rum, 1 oz
  • 1 cherry, to garnish
  • 1 slice pineapple, to garnish
In a blender, add the ingredients and blend with a cup of ice. Blend until creamy and then serve in a highball glass garnished with cherry and pineapple slice.

Midori Colada
Ingredients:
  • Rum (White), 1 oz
  • Melon liqueur (Midori), 2 oz
  • Coconut cream, 2 oz
  • Pineapple juice, 4 oz
In a blender, blend all the ingredients with a handful of ice. Serve in a cocktail glass with a straw and garnish with a cherry or pineapple slice.

You can double, triple or quadruple these drinks and entertain a large group. These recipes are quick to make and if you are organizing a party, they will make you the host with the most! Personally, I would prefer to have these chilled vodka and rum based drinks on a hot Sunday afternoon.
