Rum Cake

One of the most delicious cake, the rum cake is indeed quite easy to make. The following article will provide you with different types of rum cake recipes.
Rum cake is a very popular dessert cake, served mainly on Christmas. The main ingredient of this cake is obviously rum. Though these cakes look very exotic, they are made from the basic sponge cake. In the ancient times, various dry fruits would be soaked for about three months in rum for making the cake! This tradition is of course not followed nowadays. Going to back ingredients, besides rum, dry fruits, milk, vanilla essence are some of the commonly used ingredients. The glaze has to be made with ingredients like butter, sugar, and again, rum.

The Classic Recipe

Ingredients
  • Yellow cake mix, 1 (18.25 ounce) package
  • Chopped walnuts, 1 cup
  • Dark rum, 1 cup
  • Instant vanilla pudding mix, 1 (3.4 ounce) package
  • Eggs, 4
  • Water, ½ cup
  • Vegetable oil, ½ cup
  • Butter, ½ cup
  • Water, ⅓ cup
  • White sugar, 1 cup

To make this classic cake, preheat the oven to 325ºF also anoint and flour a 10 inch bundt pan. Sprinkle nuts even on the bottom of the pan. Take a large bowl and add pudding mix and cake mix to it, combine well. Add in ½ cup water, eggs, ½ cup rum and oil, blend well. Pour this batter over the chopped nuts and bake for about 60 minutes in the preheated oven. Let sit in the pan for about 10 minutes, then invert on the serving plate, set aside. Take a bowl and add butter, ¼ water and sugar to it. Bring this mixture to a boil over medium heat and then continue cooking for about 5 minutes, stirring continuously. Remove from heat and add the remaining rum. Spread this frosting over the cake.

Chocolate Rum Cake Recipe

Ingredients
  • Box chocolate cake mix, 1 (18.25-ounce)
  • Chocolate flavored instant
  • Pudding mix, 1 (2.8-ounce) box
  • Rum,1 cup
  • Eggs, 4
  • Low-fat milk, ½ cup
  • Canola oil, ½ cup
  • Semi-sweet chocolate fries, 1 cup
  • Butter, 4 tbs
  • Unbleached natural cane sugar, ½ cup
  • Vanilla extract, ⅓ tsp
  • Powdered sugar (optional)
  • Raspberries (optional)
  • Whipped cream (optional)
Process

Preheat the oven to 350ºF also anoint and flour bundt pan to make this homemade cake recipe. Take a large bowl and add pudding mix, cake mix, eggs, rum, milk and oil to it. Beat it with an electric mixture on low speed for about 1 minute then increase the speed and blend for about 2 minutes. Pour the blended mixture into the prepared pans, sprinkle chocolate fries and swirl them in the batter. Bake for about 45 minutes in the preheated oven. Let the cake cool on the wire rack. Meanwhile, add sugar, butter and ½ cup rum to a small pot and bring it to boil. Remove from heat, add in vanilla, set the glaze aside. Prick holes all over the cake while it is hot, then pour the glaze all over the cake, let the glaze soak completely in the rum cake mix. When done, remove the cake from the pan, dust it with powdered sugar and whipped cream, serve.

Simple Rum Cake Recipe from Scratch

Ingredients
  • Yellow cake mix, 1 pkg
  • Vanilla instant pudding (4 serving size), 1 pkg
  • Water, ½ cup
  • Vegetable oil, ½ cup
  • Bacardi rum (light), ½ cup
  • Eggs, 4
  • Butter, ½ stick
  • Water, ⅓ 8 cup
  • Sugar, ½ cup
  • Rum, ⅓ 8-⅓ cup
Process

Anoint a tube pan and combine cake mix, vanilla instant pudding, water and vegetable oil, rum in an electric mixer. Beat the eggs one at a time, combining well after each addition. Bake the cake for about 1 hour at 325 degrees F. Now boil water, ¼ cup rum and sugar. Pour this sauce over the cake while the cake is still hot. Let cool completely before moving to the wire rack.
