A beautiful greeting card can express a lot about the person who gives the card. Ready-made cards are convenient, but for some, there is no alternative to good old handmade cards. There is lot of room for innovation while making handmade cards. Here are a few handmade card ideas.

It is your friend's birthday, you have planned a great surprise and you are totally charged about the whole idea. You ponder over the arrangements and realize that a nice greeting card is missing. It could happen that your first impulse is to get a ready-made card. Then you reconsider your thought and instead decide to make a greeting card yourselves and are stuck up. What are your options to come up with a nice handmade greeting card?

Rubber Stamping
A card made using rubber stamps require least amount of time and and it is extremely easy. You just have to chose a proper rubber stamp of birthday cake or balloons. A good ink pad is essential to have a good stamp impression. Have some crayons, marker, colored pencils handy so that you can color the stamp nicely. The stamp can be used to decorate the envelope as well. You can play with the stamp and experiment on a rough sheet of paper to see which impression is the best. Then you can even take a nice cut of the stamp and paste it on the card.

Crayons and Water Colors
These are the most primary tools to make handmade greeting cards. Crayons are the simplest things to use, they are hassle-free and easily available. Decide the size and shape of the card. Draw a border if you want and then get started. You can draw anything from flowers to cakes to cartoons. Write funny text inside the card using crayons. There are a host of things that could be done with crayons. Well, watercolors could be a bit messy and you need to have a bit of an artistic inkling to paint with water colors. If you can paint with water colors, you can come up with innovative designs. If not, who cares! Anything which is drawn with passion and love for the person concerned is great! Artistically, it need not compete with Van Gogh!

Pencil Shavings
Well, this is an interesting and different option to make a greeting card. Pencil shavings is what you get when a pencil is sharpened. So if you want to make a card using pencil shavings, make sure the you get a minimum 2 or 3 complete and unbroken shavings. Paste the shavings on the card where you feel they would look good. Now keeping the shavings as the base, you can draw or write around the shavings.

Vegetable Prints
Vegetables always are a top draw. Vegetable prints on your card can give that special and cute look to the card. Okra, potatoes, cauliflower etc. can be used to make a great handmade card. If you want to use okra, cut it at the tip and a bit at the bottom. Dip the top end of one okra in watercolor or paint and then, create an impression of the painted end of okra on the card. Similarly, potato slices and cauliflower can be used.

Thumb Impressions
The fun involved in this activity is accentuated if you have company. That gives you a chance to dab some of the paint on your thumb to your friend's nose! Nevertheless, thumb impressions are also very easy to do. Just dip your thumb in the paint and create a thumb impression on the card. Just like the pencil shavings, these thumb impressions can be made the background for a drawing or it could be a part of the drawing or the content. Four thumb impressions at four corners is a cool option to give that special touch to the card.

Spraying on the card using a toothbrush is another option for a different look. Dip an old tooth brush in the paint and spray on the card. It is absolute fun! In addition to that a collage of comic strips, sticking flower petals or using the impressions is another way to make a nice handmade card.
