Root Beer Float

A root beer is a carbonated drink that is made from roots of a plant known as sassafras. It is a very popular drink in North America. It is the perfect refresher for hot sweltering summers. Root beer float is a variant of the cool refreshing drink. Foaming drink with ice cream, an irresistible treat. What more can you ask for to cool off. So who came up with this genius idea of a float with root beer? The credit for this lovely drink goes to Frank J Wisner of Colorado. The locals of Cripple Creek, from where he was, called this drink the Black Cow. Just as this drink is amazing to taste, it hardly takes anytime to make it.

How to Make a Root Beer Float
This recipe is probably one of the easiest ones you will come across.

  • Vanilla Ice Cream
Direction
Fill the glass three fourth with chilled root beer. Put the glass on plates to avoid mess due to the overflow. Add a scoop of ice cream to the glass. Top it with the beer. When you do this foam will begin to appear. Pour this till the glass is full. Your drink is ready.

You have to be careful that you do not add too much beer as the drink will overflow. To avoid this when you pour the beer, wait for the fizz to subside and then add the ice cream.

A Few Tips
When you make this float do not freeze it. This may lead to cracking. Always use chilled beer, if you do not then the ice cream may melt. You can wrap napkins around the mugs. You can also replace the vanilla ice cream for any other flavor of your choice. Chocolate ice cream is amongst the favorites. You can use homemade root beer to make this recipe as well.

How to Make a Root Beer Float Cake
Probably may sound weird, but this is the best tasting dessert you could ever have. A simple bundt cake recipe has to be followed for this. Take a look.

Ingredients
  • Root Beer - 2 cups
  • Cocoa powder (dark) - 1 cup
  • Unsalted butter - ½ cup
  • Granulated sugar - 1¼ cup
  • Salt - 1 Teaspoon
  • All-purpose flour - 2 cups
  • Dark brown sugar - ½ cup
  • Baking Soda - 1¼ teaspoons
  • Eggs - 2
  • Melted 60 percent cocoa- for frosting
  • Unsalted butter softened -1 stick for frosting
Directions
The oven must be preheated to 235 degrees Fahrenheit. Coat the inside of a Bundt pan with cooking spray. Heat the beer in a saucepan. Add cocoa powder and butter to the pan and heat till the butter melts completely. Add the sugars and keep whisking it till the sugars dissolve. Turn off the heat. Take another large bowl and whisk the flour, baking powder, soda and the salt. In a smaller bowl beat the eggs. Add these eggs to the cocoa powder batter. Also add the whisked flour to it. If the batter appears lumpy, make it smooth by beating. Pour the batter into the Bundt pan and bake it for around 45 minutes. Let the cake cool once baked completely. While the cake cools, you can make the frosting. Using a hand mixer you can mix softened butter and 2/3 rd cup of the cocoa powder. Add the chocolate, salt and powdered sugar to this. Mix it till its smooth. Spread this on the cake and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
