Romney, Gingrich Continue to Clash in Florida Debate

Mitt Romney got the better of Newt Gingrich during last night's Florida GOP debate, but there is still plenty of time for things to change.
As Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich continue to battle for the GOP Presidential Nomination, it seems that the chances of a Republican candidate capturing the White House are slipping. Of course, there is more than ample time for Romney, Gingrich or possibly another GOP candidate, to capture some momentum and make a serious run at President Obama in the November election. But unless a new GOP candidate emerges - or President Obama has major stumbles down before November - it would appear that the current administration is in the driver's seat and it's their race to lose.

The unfortunate reality for GOP candidates like Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich is that they are so similar to Barack Obama as to be almost indistinguishable. So when they inevitably start talking about things like "change" and "shaking up Washington", voters simply can't buy into it. It was that same rhetoric that pushed Barack Obama into the White House in 2008. And, of course, three years later nothing has changed and Washington is as gridlocked as ever. That's not a Republican or Democratic issue - it's the inherent corruption of the U.S. government and its policy machinations.

Americans are slowly waking up to the reality that there are no fundamental differences between Republican and Democratic politicians. They are, first and foremost, politicians. They are the elite and most come from elite backgrounds, which is no coincidence.

The status quo is greatly advantageous to them from the standpoint of power and financial gain. There is zero incentive for a Republican or Democrat to push hard to change the way our government operates. That's why, for the better part of the last four decades, nothing has substantially changed. And come November 2012, we should all expect more of the same.
