Romance on the Dance Floor - Ch. 11
And yes indeed, she called Sean. This chapter has a lot of romance in it, so I hope you guys enjoy it and let me know what you think.
After waiting for less than 15 minutes I saw Sean came out of a cab. Without looking at me he went straight to open the hood of the car. I got out of the car and walked towards him. He was bending towards the engine to see what was wrong.
"Look I’m really sorry that I bothered you with this, I just didn’t know who to call" I said.
"It’s okay, I wa..." he turned to look at me and stopped talking. He looked at me from top to toe.
"You look...uh... nice" he said while standing straight. We looked each other in the eyes for a moment. His gaze made me feel uncomfortable.
"Thanks...So, do you think you’ll be able to fix it?"
"Yeah, it doesn’t look that bad. Just give me a few minutes" he turned his gaze again to the engine while I went back to the driver’s seat. After tinkering a little he closed the hood and came to sit next to me.
"Can you start the engine, see if it works?" he asked. I turned the key and the car started.
"Great! Thanks" I said. We then drove away.
It was very quiet. Awkwardly quiet. It made me wonder why he was still so distant, that’s just not his style.
"I hope I didn’t ruin your Saturday night." I said. Trying to figure out if he was mad at me and why he was mad at me.
"No you didn’t" he said briefly. It was quiet again.
"I hesitated to call you at first" I continued.
"Why is that" he frowned his eyebrows while looking at me.
"You have been quit curt with me since yesterday night" I answered hesitatingly.
"I’m sorry about that. I don’t want you to think that you can’t call me. You can call me anytime for anything, you know that." His voice was soft. I was watching the road but could still feel him staring at me. I wished he’d stop acting like that and say things like that. It only made me want him more."
"Thanks" I replied.
"Look the reason why I acted this way is because I was mad at myself. I had no right to criticize your love life. It’s none of my business." I was amazed by his honesty.
"It’s okay. Let’s just forget about it." I answered. My temperature was rising every time I catch him looking at me. I felt a physical attraction towards him. I don’t know if it was the full moon or this dress but I felt strangely uncomfortable.
"So do I have to take you somewhere or maybe I can drive home so that you can take the car." I assumed he had plans.
"No, I have no plans tonight. I was at home when you called me."
"Sean at home on a Saturday night? I’m surprised" I said with a smile.
"I just needed a break from…" he hesitated
"The ladies?" I finished for him.
"Something like that" he replied.
After a long silence Sean broke the ice.
"I was actually planning on going to eat a chocolate cake at this café near by the house. Feel like joining me?" he said.
"I thought you needed a break from the ladies" I said with a smile.
"You’re different" he turned to look at me.
"You happen to say the 2 magical words. I can really use some chocolate right now"
He opened the door of the café for me and let me in first.
"Thanks" I said
"No thank you" he replied. I turned around to look at him and saw him checking out my ass.
"Hey! And I thought you were being a gentleman."
"I wouldn’t be a guy if I didn’t take the advantage of the occasion." He answered while we were taking a seat.
"Is that a compliment?"
"It sure is" He looked me straight in the eye. His eyes held me captured for a few seconds making me feel all warm inside.
"Hi Sean" the waitress interrupted us. When I turned to look at her I saw this beautiful girl smiling at Sean.
"The usual I guess?" she continued
"Yes, for both of us." Sean answered while smiling kindly back at her.
"So why do you need chocolate so bad?" Sean asked
"What do you mean?"
"When I offered you to go eat a chocolate cake you said that chocolate is just what you need. And I know that when a girl wants chocolate that usually means she has something on her mind. Isn’t it?" I was amazed to know that he actually listens to what I say.
"True"
"So maybe I can help? Did you have a bad date maybe? Don’t worry, this time I wont criticize I promise."
"What makes you think I had a bad date?"
"Well for starters, I wouldn’t be the one sitting here eating cake with you."
I took a deep breath.
"The date was amazing. Everything was perfect the food the music. He was perfect"
"What’s the problem then?"
"At the end of the night he tried to kiss me, but I just couldn’t"
"Auch, the poor guy."
"I know, and now I feel so guilty."
"So why didn’t you kiss him?"
"I just couldn’t. I didn’t... feel it."
"Then there is nothing to feel guilty about. If you had forced yourself to kiss him that would be like lying to him and to yourself. And that’s even worse then rejecting him"
"Yeah, you’re probably right. Besides, I should get my life back on track before getting involved in a relationship" I said. Sean nodded.
The waitress came back with the cake.
"But enough about me. We always talk about me. What about you?" I said
"What about me?" he pretended like he didn’t understood what I meant.
"What’s your story?" I replied.
He smiled while looking at his plate. He was clearly not comfortable talking about his love life.
"Don’t act like you don’t already know my story"
"I don’t know your version." He smiled but still didn’t say a word.
"C’mon, you know almost every detail of my life and I know nothing about you"
"Why are you interested to know anyway?"
"I will feel better if I knew a bit about your life too."
He hesitated at first.
"Well… uh, I had this girlfriend, Tanya..."
"The one in the picture"
"Yes, her. After 2 years of dating she decided to cheat on me with my so cold friend. End of story."
"With Ty?" I said. He nodded
"So how did that make you feel?"
"How would you feel if you find out that the person you love cheated on you 1 week after your father passed away?" He looked at me straight in the eye. Eyes that looked hurt and sad.
I was shocked. That would have definitely hurt him.
"I would be devastated" I answered.
"So, you were in love with her?" I continued.
"Honestly, I was madly in love with her." He was quiet for a while.
"But you know, I think that the timing hurt more than the act itself. I had to cope with the loss of my father and she knew how close I was with my father. And seeing her betray me with my so cold friend, in a time where I needed her the most was very difficult for me to deal with. Cause not only had I lost my father but my girlfriend and my friend too." His eyes looked sad again.
"That’s why you don’t believe in love"
"Would you?"
"I think you do believe in love but you’re just too afraid to give your hart to someone" he looked at me surprised
"You know, love is much more than having feelings towards each other. Love means trusting each other. And nowadays trust is very rare."
"But it exists." I said. He looked at me and smiled. It made me want to hold him very tightly and comfort him.
"Did she ever try to get back with you?"
"Yes, she said she regretted it and that it was just a moment of weakness. But to me it was too late".
"So where is Tanya now?"
"She’s in her first year of college"
"Do you still…think about her?" I wondered if it was appropriate for me to ask something like that. He looked at me and smiled uncomfortably.
"No, it took me some time, but eventually I got over her"
For some reason I was relieved by his answer.
"You know I’m glad we had this conversation. It feels good to talk about it after all those years." He said while looking at me.
"I’m glad you told me" I replied
We arrived back home. There was no one home.
"C’mon I want to show you something" Sean said.
I followed him upstairs where he guided me to his dance studio. The dark studio was lightened by the moonlight that shined through the big window. I looked outside and saw the stars. It looked beautiful. Romantic.
"Wow, it’s beautiful" I said, while walking towards the centre of the room.
"It is, is it" Sean said. We looked at each other for a moment and the warm feeling I felt inside grew even more. I wanted to walk towards him and kiss him. But instead turned around and went my way to the stereo.
"I will turn on the radio and I dare you, Sean Miles, to dance at any song that they’re playing" Sean smiled and without any hesitation walked to the centre of the room
"Okay, just let it come" he said with a lot of confidence.
I put on the radio and before I realized that they were playing ‘Smooth Criminal’ of Michael Jackson, I saw Sean already dance to it. He knew almost the entire routine of the song. It was amazing how he danced to it. He made the same grimaces which made me roar with laughter.
"That’s the best Michael Jackson impression I’ve ever seen."
"Yeah I had this Michael Jackson phase a few years ago" he smiled at me.
"I can see that. Okay, this has been too easy for you, so on to the next song" I said while changing the radio station. It was a slow jam. He looked at me and smiled.
"What? Can’t dance to this?" I said
"Oh I can definitely dance to this. But this is a slow jam, I guess I need a dance partner for this one" He smiled at me again.
"Would you like to dance with me, Layla?" he hold out his hand inviting me to dance. I looked at his hand hesitating to give mine. But then put my hand gently on his. The touch of it made me shiver. He slowly pulled me towards him and rested his other hand on my back. I could smell that same perfume again. That perfume that made me thinks of the first time he came to stand close to me. We moved slowly to the rhythm of the song. Left to right. He then raised my hand and spun me around. The way he guided me through the music was perfect.
"You passed this one too." I said softly
"I had the radio on my side. Beginners luck I guess" he replied. He looked at me while he moved from right to left.
"I like your hair like that" he whispered in my ear.
I enjoyed the music, the moonlight, Sean’s close presence, his smell, his touch, everything. All those aspects made me forget about everything I had to deal with in my life.
He pulled me closer and sighed.
"Something’s wrong?" I asked.
"I have something on my mind" his voice was soft and gentle, he almost whispered.
"What is it? Maybe I can help."
"Well, there is this girl I’ve been dying to kiss and she makes it very difficult for me to restrain myself" I felt my stomach flip over when hearing it.
"So why don’t you?" I asked
"Because I’m afraid that after the kiss there might be consequences… expectations."
"So if I’m correct, you’re afraid that the girl might expect things that you can’t meet?"
"She’s not the only one I’m worried about. The worst part is that I might have expectations too. Does that make any sense?"
"Yes it does"
"So do you have any wise words for me?" his voice was soft and I felt his breath caressing my neck.
"Not really. All I can say is that sometimes you just need to seize the moment otherwise you will miss out on a lot of things in life."
He slowly turned to look at me. He looked me deep in the eyes and then lowered his gaze to my lips while coming closer. The closer he got the faster my heart started beating. He bended his head until he reached my lips. The touch of our lips together made us stop dancing while our lips moved slowly and perfectly together which made the warm feeling I had inside turn into fire. He rested both his hands on my back and pulled me closer to him which made my stomach flip over. I had my arms wrapped around his neck and caressed his soft warm skin.
Our kisses became more intense. I felt his tongue searching for mine while he was caressing my back.
After a while we then stopped kissing. He rested his forehead against mine while touching my back very tightly. When I opened my eyes I saw that his were still closed and he bit his lip as if he had to force himself to stop. He took a deep breath and opened his eyes to look at me. I tried to read his mind, figuring out if he felt the same way I did. Because one thing’s for sure, I’ve never experienced a kiss like this before.
He gently let go of me and took a small step back. We looked at each other and smiled uncomfortably.
"It’s getting late. I should go get some sleep" I said. He nodded
I walked towards the door leaving Sean behind me. I turned to look at him and saw him staring to the moon with a troubled look. If only I could read his mind right now.
Please keep on commenting, it’s very important for me to know what you think…
