Tanya looked at me for a few minutes, as if she was trying to find a good reason why I would be here.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"Well uh…I’m… working on the assignment with Sean" I answered.
"Liar! I saw you coming in late last night. You’ve clearly spend the night here" she looked really upset.
She turned around to walk away.
"Tanya, wait!" I said.
She turned around to look at me.
"So you’re sleeping with him? What, is it just for fun or are you guys dating?"
"I’m not sleeping with him"
"I knew something wasn’t right, but I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt. I thought we were friends, Layla" her voice became louder and I saw hurt in her eyes.
Again she turned around to walk away.
"We are friends" I said while following her.
She didn’t respond.
"Would you at least here me out?!" I continued
"NO!" she shouted
"Would you like it if someone didn’t let you explain?" I said.
She froze and realized what I meant with that. She slowly turned to look at me and it was clear that she was starting to cool down.
"But no more lies, Layla" she said
"I promise. But I need you to promise me to keep it a secret. Okay?" I answered.
"I promise" she answered
So we sat on the bench in the back yard and I explained my situation to her. She listened to my story without interrupting.
"Oh Layla, I’m so sorry" she said with tears in her eyes. She hugged me.
"It’s okay. But please, don’t tell anyone about this. If Ty founds out, he will kick me out of the crew, you know that."
"Don’t worry Layla, your secret’s safe with me" she winked at me.
"I’m really sorry for reacting like I did, I lost my temper a little bit." she said a bit embarrassed.
"It’s okay"
"You know, I would lie if I told you I wasn’t jealous about you living under the same roof"
"Don’t worry, Tanya. There is nothing going on between us. You might even have a shot with him again."
"You think?" her eyes widened and a smile slowly appeared.
I nodded.
"Hey" I heard familiar voice coming from behind us. Sean was looking at Tanya.
"I’ll leave you two alone" I said with pain in the heart. This was it. At this point I knew I was loosing him to Tanya, his first and only true love. I didn’t know what to feel anymore. Heartbreak, jealousy, loneliness? All that for a boy? Why did I let this go so far?
Sean’s POV:
Layla got up from the bench and walked towards the door. We made eye contact but she quickly looked down as if she didn’t want to look at me. Why was she doing this? Why was she driving me back to Tanya? So everything we’ve been through didn’t mean anything to her? Didn’t she feel what I felt when we kissed?
Maybe it was for the best. She deserves someone better then me, someone who will give his heart to her. And I just couldn’t be that person.
I sat down next to Tanya while she looked at me with widened eyes. Looking at her brought the memories back. She looked nice like usual.
"Hi" she said quietly.
"Hi" I replied "How is life?".
"Good. But not the same without you" she lowered her gaze to her hands and then looked at me again.
"My life hasn’t been the same either you know" I admitted
"I really wish I could turn back time, but I can’t." she said while looking at me with tears in the eyes.
"Look, I have to go I don’t want to be late for practice." I got up from the bench and noticed the sadness in Tanya’s eyes.
"Why don’t we grab a pizza or something this evening, so that we can talk?" I said. She lightened up and jumped to hug me. The sweet smell of her curly hair brought me back to a few years ago where everything was so clear and simple.
She had her arms around my neck but I just froze. I couldn’t answer her hug.
"It’s just pizza, Tanya" is sad coldly
She took a step back and her smile slowly disappeared.
"I know" her voice was hoarse
Layla’s POV:
I left home as soon as I could. I couldn’t bear to be around them. The last thing I wanted was to witness their reconciliation.
All day long I couldn’t take my mind of the fact that I left them alone together, talking, or maybe kissing. The thought of it drove me crazy.
I tried to stay away from home as much as I could just to avoid any confrontation with either one of them. But late in the evening I decided to go home.
I was about to open the front door when I turned my eyes to Tanya’s house. They were standing there in front of the house, talking. They probably just got back from there date.
Instead of looking away and getting in the house my eyes got locked in front of them.
The thing that I was avoiding all day was there in front of me.
They were both smiling at each other and he then hugged her. Oh my god he hugged her. I wished it was the worst part, but it wasn’t. After the hug, they kissed. Oh my god they kissed.
I felt like someone pulled my heart out of my chest, threw it on the floor and kept on kicking it.
I wanted to walk towards them, tear them apart and go all ‘Brandy and Monica’ on her, yelling that the boy is mine.
But he isn’t, he’s not mine and will never be mine. I felt like my eyes was starting to tear, so quickly looked away, got in the house and ran upstairs to the dance studio.
I needed to dance to hold back the tears that I felt were coming. I don’t cry, I can’t cry. I don’t even cry over my mother, let along over a boy. A boy I wasn’t even supposed to like.
While I was dancing I kept on picturing their intimate moment. How much I tried, I just couldn’t get it out of my mind.
