William’s rep, Mara Buxbaum, confirmed the split Wednesday. Marsha Garces Williams reportedly filed for divorce in San Francisco on March 21 citing irreconcilable differences. The couple has two children together a daughter Zelda, 18 and a son Cody, 16. Garces is reportedly asking for joint legal custody of the couple’s son. She is asking that he live with her and that Williams has visitation. She is also asking that Williams pay her attorney fees, spousal support, and that the court divide their assets.
Garces, 51, first met Williams, 56, when she was a nanny to the funnyman’s oldest child, Zachary, with his first wife Valerie Velardi. Williams and Velardi were married for 10 years. Garces eventually became Williams’ assistant and finally married him. The couple founded Blue Wolf Productions in 1991 which helped produce Williams’ hits Patch Adams and Mrs. Doubtfire.
No specific reason was given for the split. In 2006, after years of being sober, Williams checked into rehab at a clinic in Oregon. At the time, his publicist said in a statement, "After 20 years of sobriety, Robin Williams found himself drinking again and has decided to take proactive measures to deal with this for his own well-being and the well-being of his family." Williams was a heavy user of cocaine during the 70’s and 80’s but quit after the death of his best but John Belushi and the birth of his first child. He will reportedly guest star on the 200th episode of Law & Order: SVU which will air in April.
