Robber Phones Mom for Ride Home From Burglary
A South Carolina man called his mother for a ride home from a crime scene, then palmed off his crack on her as they were being pulled over by the sheriff.
Good old mom—she can be counted on for anything. Including driving her son home from the scene of a reported burglary, and taking the rap for possession of a crack pipe.
Isaac Talavera Jr., 25, from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, phoned his mother for a ride home last Thursday, offering her $10 for the favor, according to local newspaper the island packet. He didn’t have his own car and she was happy to help.
When she showed up, a neighbor who suspected Talaveras of committing a burglary in a nearby apartment followed them. The neighbor had heard "suspicious" noises and phoned the police.
The Beaufort County sheriff soon located their vehicle and pulled over mom. She told the arresting officer that just before they’d been pulled over, her son had given her a bag with syringes and a crack pipe so that they wouldn’t be found on his person.
He didn’t want to be arrested for violating parole.
She also told police that she was not aware of the fact that her son had just allegedly committed a burglary.
The sheriff’s deputy searched the car, and found the following items belonging to the owner of the apartment: two tank tops, a packet of cigarettes, 13 pairs of socks, car keys, a watch, vehicles titles, and two cell phones.
Talaveras was charged with second-degree burglary for the crime and taken to the Beaufort County Jail. Talaveras’ mother, who was not identified, was not charged with any crime.
No word on whether mom will be available to iron his prison jumpsuit.
