- Confession -
- " I... I'm..." He stopped there. He kept looking at her, not being able to look away.
/"What do I tell her anyway?"/ he thought. /"I'm the man who's responsible for the death of everyone you knew..."/
He remembered how fragile she looked last night, lying unconscious in his arms. He was almost afraid to touch her. She seemed unreal. He remembered moving away hair from her face so that he could see her face more clearly. He stroke her hair and touched her cheek. Then he took her to her bed inside of the cabin. Bed was beautiful, made out of wood. It looked comfortable. He placed her gently on the mattress.
He remembered how hard it was for him to look away while he was changing her into the nightdress. He was raised properly. He knew his manners. He would never take advantage of a girl. When he was done and sat next to her, he was finally able to study her face. Her hair gave out silvery light as the moon rays were seeping though the window, lighting it. She looked magical. He then remembered the story his mother told him, about the prince kissing the girl and waking her up from a deep sleep.
/"Well, I'm a prince."/ he thought to himself.
Ranel closed his eyes for a moment, remembering last night again. Just as moon rays were disappearing, he slowly bent down until his lips were just above hers. He was able to feel her warm breath. His head was dizzy. /"Just like in the story. I kiss her, she awakes."/ he thought while closing his eyes. He placed his lips over hers very gently. He felt the softness of her lips and sparks went down his spine as he felt her kissing him back in her sleep.
When he backed away, he was barely able to breathe from excitement, and the girl was still sleeping with a faint smile on her face. He thought she looked beautiful when sad, but her smile, no matter how small it was, brightened up the room and at that moment, sunrays entered through the window. Her hair caught the golden rays and gave out faint yellow glow. She looked unreal. He didn't understand how he was able to fall asleep while looking at her all morning.
Now he opened his eyes again to see her puzzled expression. She looked cute, standing like that, looking confused. He smiled at her.
- " My name is Ranel, son of Rulan. I was sent here to look for you. " he said with a formal bow after clearing his throat.
- " Why am I needed? Who would know me? Everyone I knew were killed. " He could see the pain coming back to her eyes now.
- " Queen Leana. "
At that name, she backed away a bit.
- "Queen Leana died when I was little. She couldn't have sent for me. "
- " Before she died, you were to be brought to the court and raised there. Her death spoiled everything. Her plan was to reunite our nations. "
She laughed sarcastically. She couldn't hold it in:
- " Reunite?? In case you haven't noticed, our dear king destroyed the last of our villages a year ago. I had to bury them myself. Everyone I knew! And if I ever get the chance to.. "
- " It's me... I was in charge of the army that destroyed your village. I am kings son. I.." he didn't get to finish the sentence because the girl ran towards him with the scream coming out of her lips, she jumped on him, wrestling him down on the ground with bare hands, then she started slapping and hitting him as hard as she could. He only put the hand over his face. He knew he deserved this and that she needed it.
Moments later they were surrounded by wolves, showing their teeth to him.
