Preparing for Rhinoplasty
Before going in for a rhinoplasty, one needs to discuss various aspects of the procedure with the surgeon. This is especially applicable when the person is going for an aesthetic rhinoplasty. It is better to discuss the details, and more importantly, the expectations that the person has from the procedure beforehand. Age is also an important consideration, as it does not make sense to do a rhinoplasty before the growth spurts of the person have been attained. Before the surgical procedure, the doctor will advise you to stop smoking and drinking before the procedure. There may also be need to take certain antibiotics and medications before the procedure. In case you have any allergy to any medication or if you have had any surgical procedures done before, it is best to discuss it with your surgeon. Given below are the different nose job procedures.
Open Rhinoplasty
Open rhinoplasty is a procedure where the nasal surgery is performed by exposing the cartilages with the help of peeling back the nasal skin. This is done by making a small outside incision on the columnella, the aspect of the nose that is the two nostrils. Additionally, incisions are also placed inside the nose. The incisions that are made on the outside usually heal well, and is sutured properly, rarely leave any scar. For aiding in camouflage, these sutures are not straight lines but are zigzag in nature.
There are many advantages of open rhinoplasty. Firstly, the nasal anatomy becomes very clear with this approach, as the skin covering the cartilage is removed. Furthermore, grafting can be done a lot more easily when an open rhinoplasty is done. However, after an open rhinoplasty, there are higher chances of scarring. This procedure also takes a lot longer and is slightly more traumatic than a closed rhinoplasty.
Closed Rhinoplasty
Closed rhinoplasty, also known as endonasal rhinoplasty, is the nasal reshaping procedure where there is no outside visible scarring. This is a relatively difficult procedure to master, as the access to the nasal cartilage is done from inside the nose. Due to the relative difficulty in the approach in this method, people say that they prefer to perform open rhinoplasties. However, it is universally agreed upon that comparatively, open rhinoplasty does lead to more scarring when compared to closed rhinoplasty.
Non-surgical Rhinoplasty
Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a procedure where there is slight reshaping of the nose done without any kind of surgical intervention. Thus, this is a nose job without surgery. Here, the reshaping is brought about by either injectable substances which alter the shape of the nose, or with the help of flexible nose inserts that are placed between the nose tip and the back of the nose.
Thus, this was all about the different types of rhinoplasty procedures that can be performed. If you're going in for a nose job, or any kind of plastic surgery for that matter, it is best to do your homework beforehand, as being well informed about the procedure will help you understand what to expect better.
