Retirement Party Etiquette
People believe that retirement is not the end, but the beginning of a new life. It is an inevitable experience that a working person has to endure at some time or the other. To start the beginning of a new life, throwing a retirement party is the best option. A retirement party is a happy as well as a sad occasion. It is largely related to the emotions of the retiree. It is a happy event in relation to a new tension-free life, and a sad event in relation to the discontinuation of work with colleagues and the office which one is so used to. But in order for the smooth running of the party, guests should have a common understanding of how to behave in a retirement party. In simple words, they should have retirement party etiquette. Below are some of the most common retirement party etiquette.

Always Bring a Gift
While going to a retirement party, good-mannered guests always make it a point to carry a gift and a card along for the retiree. Which gift you need to buy depends on how close your relations are with the retiree. It is always recommended to exhibit courtesy and politeness to the retiree and his family by presenting him with a gift and a greeting card. This etiquette is not only limited to a retirement party, but also a wedding reception party or simply a birthday party.

Do Not Display Family Problems
A retirement party is one of the best opportunities for all family members and friends to come together and have a good time. However, there may be some families who might have unhealthy relations among them. For this reason, they are not able to enjoy the party and may make the atmosphere unpleasant. All relatives and families of the retiree should keep their personal and family problems at home, and try to enjoy the party like a happy family. Even if they have some differences among them, the differences should not be made obvious in the party. This may make a bad impression on the guests present.

Be Happy for the Retiree
A retirement party is certainly a joyous event for the friends and families of the retiree. You should not use it as an opportunity to talk about your job grievances and problems, and also the way you would like to retire. This surely is not suitable for the occasion, and may create discourtesy for the retiree. Instead, be happy for the retiree and participate in his family's joy.

Remember the Party's Purpose
A retirement party may have number of guests having food and wine. Due to this reason, one might forget the purpose and theme of the party. One needs to understand that the party is exclusively focused on the retiree. He must not try to do things which will steal the spotlight, and attract attention. So if you are among those who have the habit of always being in the limelight, you would need to restrain yourself at least for the party day.

These are some retirement party etiquette that you need to follow if you are any way related to such party, as a guest or a family member of the retiree. The party certainly has to be one of the best experiences of the retiree, as who knows that may be the last opportunity for all the colleagues and subordinates to get together.
