I am just kidding, the heart never takes rest and works continuously. Resting heart rate (RHR) is measured when the body is at rest, and it is the actual assessment of the fitness level. There is a difference in this rate for both men and women. In this article, we will specifically concentrate on the RHR for men.

Resting Heart Rate For Men

The heart rate of a person depends on a number of factors like - weight, lifestyle, water intake and diet. Men tend to have a slightly lower rate than women. A reason for this observation is that men have a more physically active life. As the exercise level increases, the resting heart rate decreases. The average rate for men is thus anywhere between 60 - 90 bpm. This rate is calculated when the body is at complete rest. This means, the body should be stress free, both physically and mentally. The best time to calculate it is in the morning, as the body and mind is fresh at that time. The best way to calculate it is by finding the pulse of the heart at points like the wrist or neck, use any of the fingers to feel the pulse. After the pulse is found, you need to calculate the number of beats in 1 minute. The shortcut method is to calculate the number of beats in 10 seconds, and then multiplying the obtained digit by 6. A low resting heart is desirable because it signifies that the heart has less workload, because it is not beating that frequently, and is managing to pump more blood in less amount with each beat. As it is a measure of the fitness level of the body, most athletes use it as a measure to assess if they are over trained.
