Alternately, you may be sick of wallpaper and decide to paint your walls instead. While this is a fairly herculean task (both the stripping and the painting), it can get very frustrating when you meet with failure while trying to remove wallpaper glue before painting. However, the good news is that wallpaper glue removal, albeit messy and requiring elbow grease, is easy to accomplish. So despair not, for we are here with a few remedies for you.
How to Remove Wallpaper Glue
In order to remove wallpaper glue residue, you need a bucket, dish soap, warm water, bath sponge, sponge, plastic covering and metal sponge (steel wool). To start with, protect the floor by covering it with plastic sheets or old towels. If you have wall to wall carpeting, you need to be extra careful and ideally use both, towels and plastic. Before you start, keep a few old towels that you can use to mop up any spills.
Fill a bucket with hot or warm water, which you should replace every time it begins to cool. Add about a tablespoon of liquid dish-washing detergent to the water. Then use a sponge soaked in the liquid to wet the walls, and put some good old arm muscle into scrubbing the sticky areas. For better results, you may want to use a heavy duty scrub brush.
Once you're done scrubbing the walls, throw away the soapy water and fill the bucket with fresh, clean water. Now take a fresh sponge or washcloth, and lightly wash the walls again. This time you have to clean away the soapy water, and you may need two rounds of clean water to do so.
Remedies for Removing Wallpaper Glue
Another method that is said to produce results is a wallpaper removal solution of warm water and Tri Sodium Phosphate (TSP). Alternately, you could ask your paint store representative to suggest another wall cleaning product.
Some people find that a steamer works well to loosen glue. If you don't have one at home, you could rent a steamer from a hardware store. You may want to follow it up with some scrubbing and then treat it to another blast of steam.
If you don't like any of the previous suggestion, one may use an enzyme based wall paper remover and wet sponge. You can get some at a hardware stores, either liquid or gel form. The advantage of this substance is that it lets you take off the thinnest layer of glue in the wall, without causing damage to it. Apply a few coats of the remover depending on how stubborn the glue is, and then scrape it off with a small knife. Ensure that you wear gloves and eye glasses while using this substance, to protect yourself from splatter.

Another home remedy is wallpaper removal with fabric softener. Combine one tablespoon of baking soda or four tablespoons of fabric softener onto hot water, and fill it in a hand sprayer. Now squirt it onto the stubborn glue areas and scrub away.
