Remodeling Ideas for Small Bathrooms
While remodeling small bathrooms, one should keep in mind that it should not only enhance the overall look of the bathroom, but at the same time it should be functional too. Some simple ways of remodeling a small bathroom are as follows:
Bathroom Wall: The easiest and simplest way of bathroom decoration is to paint the walls or install wallpaper on them. For bathroom paint, opt for light shades of colors. This is because light colors will reflect a lot of light all over the place and will give an open and airy feel inside. If you are interested in wallpapers, make sure the designs consist of small patterns and not some giant design that seems to block the bathroom space. To add more depth to the bathroom, you can paint the wall that is just opposite to the entrance with a dark color.
Tiles: For bathroom flooring, install large sized tiles with small delicate patterns on them. You can use solid colors for the floor tiles as they can give a brighter look to the small bathroom. Another tile pattern that looks good and gives depth to a small bathroom is contrast colored tiles that are arranged diagonally. For the walls, use tiles that are narrow in shape and arrange them in horizontal manner.
Fixtures: While selecting bathroom fixtures for small bathroom remodeling, it should be kept in mind that they should not occupy a large amount of space. Keep the size of the bathroom sink small. Wall hung sinks and corner sinks are ideal for this purpose. Similarly, keep the size of the tubs shorter than the average size. If you do not usually use a bathtub, then do not keep the option at all in your bathroom. It will occupy some of the area unnecessarily. Rather, utilize the area for a standalone shower. In a small bathroom, round toilets are more preferable than the elongated one as they require less space. If you cannot find the right size of the bathroom fixtures, then you can custom build them to meet your requirements.
Lighting: There should be enough light in a small bathroom as it helps to increase the apparent size of the room. Allow as much of natural light inside the bathroom as possible. For this purpose, you can include a skylight and bay window in the bathroom. Use light fixtures at each of the corners for heavy bathroom lighting. To make the bathroom look even brighter, position the bathroom mirrors strategically on the walls. These mirrors reflect the light all over the room. Similarly, shiny surfaces on bathroom vanities can reflect light and will give an impression of larger room.
Storage: Proper storage facilities in the bathroom is important simply because the necessary items of the bathroom can be organized in a better manner. This will help to get rid of the cluttered look of a small space. Install towel rails behind the bathroom door which will help to save the space of the standalone ones. There is a lot of space left under the bathroom sink where you can fit in some adjustable bathroom shelves or drawers and make full use of the space. You can also use hanging baskets suspended from ceiling and wall mounted cabinets to store materials.
You can come up with more innovative ideas and decorate your bathroom as per your requirement and style. However, make sure that there is some kind of consistency in the overall bathroom designs. Or else, it will give a cramped look which is uncalled-for.
