Relationships Shouldn't Hurt
Do you long to see the world like you did when you first fell in love? Miss that endorphin pumping, adrenaline rush you had when you first got married? It’s all within your reach when you learn that no matter what has happened or how long you’ve been together; relationships shouldn’t hurt.
Love is wonderful! If you think relationships shouldn’t hurt, listen to this. I’m in the most incredible, special, respectful relationship I've ever known. Let me share a day in my life with you. He opens my car door for me everyday, consistently makes breakfast for the family, takes showers with me, tells me how much he loves me at least a dozen times a day, and listens to everything I have to say. He doesn’t raise his voice, and we have never been in an argument. Yes it’s true, and he’s a 40 year old 6’2" attractive alpha male, that’s a published, accomplished, professional musician.
I wake up every day as if I’ve just fell into a beautiful dream, his hands are on my body deliberately tracing along my curves with his fingertips, across my shoulder, down my arm, over my hips. I feel his energy as I slip back into consciousness. His fingertips light my skin on fire. Always with, "good morning baby, how did you sleep?" Where am I, this is heaven, right? He gets the kids up for school then comes back to help me into my clothes, obviously pleased with himself and deliberately slipping me kisses here and there. We talk about the day ahead, things on our mind, or just lust after each other in the mirror before I leave for work. Wow, let me ask you, how do you wake up each day? Was there a time in your relationship that you felt that insatiable desire for your mate? Life evolved solely around them and the world was this beautiful place that the two of you explored together? It’s still there; the only thing that has changed is you. Do you want to feel like that again?
One of our secrets to eternal bliss is that we value our relationship as the most precious thing we have. What a unique gift we’ve given each other by loving ourselves, respecting each other and encouraging communication. Let me tell you that relationships shouldn’t hurt. Our love is like a warm blanket in time of need. It carries us from our first breath of the day until our last.
It took me over 20 years of being in relationships to figure out what works. I figured out that no one was going to love me until I loved myself. I’m ultimately responsible for my own happiness. I became more enlightened over the years and decided to not let mainstream media have such control over my life; always telling me what I should buy, eat, drink and forever putting me in debt. This always left me wanting. I was overloaded by painful talk shows and reality shows that always seemed surreal. I turned TV off; decided to eat meals with my family and say aloud to someone I love that I appreciate them at least once a day. Simply knowing one’s self, not conforming, being responsible individuals, and enlisting in conscious consumerism is my chosen path.
After some soul searching I know that a simple conversation can leave me with more fulfillment than some spendy restaurant or a new pair of shoes could possibly afford. Relationships shouldn’t hurt, and I’m here to prove than they don’t have too. Communication is key in any relationship. Take time to listen "quietly" to the innermost "you" and to your mate. Find out if you are running from something, find power to face what you must, and do it! Who can love you until you learn to love that beautiful person you are inside, and you will shine like the sun. Shine on! And watch those around you warm up.
Today is a brand new day; it’s your day, your life, and your time to shine.
