Reindeer Food

The food for reindeer or more commonly known as magic reindeer food or magic reindeer dust, is a fun kids' activity during Christmas. According to tradition, each year, young kids love to leave milk and cookies or some other tasty snacks for Santa on Christmas Eve. But what about the reindeer that Santa Claus comes on? Even they get hungry from riding from one place to another. Shouldn't they also get sweet treats while they wait for Santa out in the garden? Even they deserve to have some sweet and delightful food left out for them.

As a common school Christmas project, kids are taught how to make food for reindeer with few simple ingredients. Whether this activity is done in school or at home, you too can make sweet snack for Rudolph and friends. In the following article, we will go over some magic food recipes that the kids can sprinkle out in the front garden on Christmas Eve. This way, when Santa can easily find his way to your home.

Traditional Magic Food

Ingredients

• 4 tablespoons red colored sugar
• 4 tablespoons green colored sugar
• 1 cup rolled oats

Directions

In a bowl, mix all the ingredients one by one and stir with a spoon. If you want, you can add various colors of sugar crystals as well such as blue, yellow, orange, etc. to this recipe. Once mixed, ask the kids to sprinkle the mixture in the garden (and wait for Santa to arrive).

Cereal Magic Food

Ingredients

• 4 cups Froot Loops cereal
• 12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
• ¾ cup peanut butter
• 1 cup colorful sugar crystals

Directions

Take a pot with water boiling in it and place another pot on top. Add peanut butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips so that it can melt properly. Keep stirring as the ingredients melt. Once the mixture is liquid-like, remove the pot from the stove and add Froot Loops in. Coat the cereal thoroughly and then, in the end, mix the sugar crystals. Again stir properly and spread dollops of the mixture on a cookie sheet. Flatten it with a spoon and let it cool down. Once cool, you can crumble it even further or serve it like that. You can also add any other cereal as well Coco Puffs, Lucky Charms, or Oreos.

Fruity Magic Food

Ingredients

• 2 cups dried apple slices
• 2 cups red and blue sugar crystals
• Nutmeg, for taste
• Cinnamon sticks, for taste
• Cloves, for taste

Directions

In a bowl, mix all the ingredients and stir properly. You can add nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, and cloves as per taste. On Christmas Eve, have the kids sprinkle the food for the reindeer.

If you are giving this food to someone as a Secret Santa gift, then once you finish making the recipes, add the mixture into a plastic bag and secure it with a ribbon. On a piece of paper, write a short poem (examples given below) and keep it inside the Christmas stocking.

Sprinkle this magic reindeer food outside tonight.
The moonlight will make it sparkle bright.
As the reindeer fly and roam.
This magic dust will guide them to your home.
