Reformatting Windows 7 requires you to have a copy of Windows 7 CD and the product key. If you do not have either of these, you won't be able to move ahead. The disc contains software for Windows 7 and comes along with the computer. You will get the CD only if you purchase a genuine Windows 7 product. The product key will be present on a sticker stuck to your computer or laptop. Next, you need to restart your computer. When you press the power on button on your computer, immediately press the F8, F12 or delete key. The key depends on the manufacturer. This key will help you access the BIOS of your computer. Press the key till you see a boot menu appear. Press Enter and select the option, 'boot from the CD'. Save the settings and as it will help you when you begin reformatting.

How to Reformat a Windows 7

Reformatting Windows 7 is easy. All you need to do is insert the CD in your computer. Then switch off your computer. Restart your computer and hold down the space bar continuously. You need to select boot from CD/DVD and press any key to enter the installation setup. Then, you will see an Install Windows page and you will be asked to enter your language preference. Select the relevant information and click on Next. You will now see a Please Read the License terms page. Accept the license terms and click on I accept the license terms. Click on Next.

When you do so, you will be asked which type of installation do you want? When you see this message, click on Custom. You should now click on the partition you wish to format. You will be asked whether you want to repair or install a new copy of Windows 7. You are installing a new copy of Windows so select this option. You need to press the D key on your computer keyboard and delete the existing partitions. Then select a blank space to format the new partition and select the space with the help of arrow keys. Choose the size of the new C partition or select default that contains the maximum size. Select the C partition that you just created, and choose the file system that you want to use. You need to select NTFS as it is secure and better. Your installation process will soon begin. It can take about ½ an hour to 1 hour. Sometime in between, you will be prompted to enter your product key. Enter the key and click Enter to continue.

Once the installation is complete, you will be prompted with instructions to follow. Just select the time, region, password, name of your computer, etc. Once you complete this step you will be guided to your desktop computer. Once reformatting is complete, you need to install the drivers. You need to remove the Windows CD and insert the drivers CD provided by the manufacturer. If you do not have the CD, you need to visit the computer manufacturer's website. Here, look for all the drivers to be installed and download them to your PC. After all the relevant drivers have been installed your computer will be as good as new.

Reformatting Windows 7 without CD is not possible. You need a copy of Windows to reinstall it to your computer. This is all you need to do when you are trying to reformat Windows 7.
