Reese Witherspoon & Jake Gyllenhaal Call it Quits?

Witherspoon and Gyllenhaal began dating in March and it seemed as if things were progressing nicely for the couple. He had reportedly met her children and her mother and the two were getting more serious, but a source says that the romance has been put on the back burner. A source close to Witherspoon claims the actress is behind the split. Said the source, "She has either called it off or is just taking a break." Witherspoon only split from Ryan Phillippe, her husband of almost seven years, in November. The source said, "She cares for Jake, but the timing is crappy. She doesn’t have enough emotional space for him right now."

Witherspoon and Phillippe split amid rumors that he had had an affair with one of his co-stars. In November, a representative for the couple released the following statement, "We are saddened that Reese and Ryan have decided to formally separate. They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time." Witherspoon, 30, and Phillippe, 32, were married on June 5, 1999. They welcomed daughter Ava Elizabeth in September 1999. Their second child, Deacon, was born in October 2003.

Five months after her split from Phillippe rumors started that Witherspoon and Gyllenhaal, 26. were enjoying a romance. In March a source reportedly said, "They are taking it slow. It is new for both of them. But they are seeing each other and seeing where it goes." It has also been reported that lately Gyllenhaal has been telling people that he is single. Witherspoon reportedly wants to stay focused on her children and has reportedly been living like a homebody because she is allegedly worried that "when she is in public everyone is talking about her failed marriage."
