Redecorate Your Bedroom on a Budget

Think a bedroom makeover is outside your budget? Think again, follow these helpful tips and breathe some new life into your old boring bedroom.
Redecorate Your Bedroom on a Budget
You really can change the look of your bedroom without spending a fortune. It doesn’t matter if your working on a complete makeover or just adding a couple of accessories; a little creative thinking will make all the difference.

This is what you’ll need to get start:

Get yourself several accessory pillows, for about $10 each or less, in completely new color. You can easily make a beautiful monochromatic look simply by using pillows of the same color but mixing up several textures like chenille or elegant raw silk. Layer your pillows, larger ones in the back and smaller ones up front, and you can easily create a romantic look.

A fresh coat of paint is the most inexpensive change you can make to a room that will also have the most impact. Remember, you don't have to repaint your entire room; you can focus on a particular area that needs renovating. Older more detailed closet doors can be spruced up by painting the frame in a neutral color and the inset in a dark color. Painting furniture is wonderful way to make a room come alive. Try faux antique finishing a nightstand or sponge painting a blanket chest.

Headboards and foot boards can be expensive. Want to try something bold and different? Pick up a picket fence or ornate wrought iron fence at your local flea market. Want something that’s inexpensive and will make your bed look soft and sophisticated? Then try decorating with bed skirts. They can be found in a plethora of colors, textures and patterns. By using a soft and neutral color you can get the most in both beauty and versatility. You do not want it to be a focal point, but you do want it be the finishing touch on a bed.

Window treatments are not as difficult as most people believe. Depending on the material used, swag curtains can be inexpensive and not too dramatic. It’s an easy way to give your room that feminine touch. You can do this by simply placing plant or bicycle hooks in the ceiling. Or if you would like to keep it simple and inexpensive you can always go with a just a blind and floral accent at the top of your window. Another way to go, and one we just love, is a simple rod with some artsy finials and ready-made drapes. Ikea, Target and Sears carry huge selections of these items.

Do have a canopy or four-poster bed that could use a little sprucing up? Adorn the poles with fabric to achieve that "pond" affect, where the fabric appears to create a "pond" at the base. To get this effect all you need to do is add an extra 2 feet to the fabric before it’s cut. Candles are a perfect decorative item that many people tend to forget. If you want a little sophistication and romance use white ones, but if you want to pull focus to dresser or night stand consider a group of colored candles. Even numbers tend to be boring so go for odd numbered candle groupings. A great technique is to use various heights and place them as an altar on a shelf.

Hang inexpensive framed artwork or mirrors to help give your room a new look, but make sure the frames work with your existing decor. Use neutral color frames such as black, silver, white or even wood tone. For an easy decorating idea try simple wall shelves. Have a collection? Then wall shelves are a great place to display, just make sure to stay away from small items. Placing a lot of tiny accessories will leave the shelf looking cramped and cluttered. You can place a framed painting or pictures on the shelf or even try something minimalist like fresh flowers in simple glass bottles.
