Records That Will Never be Broken

It's said that records are made to be broken, but there are some records that will never be broken. Here we give you a list of some of the most noticeable records which are unlikely to be broken any time soon.
Every sportsperson making a record knows that his or her record would be broken sometime. However, there are exceptions and records that will never be broken, numbers so huge that it comes once in a lifetime. In the following paragraphs we give you some of those records, but this is not an exhaustive list and names of some popular sports persons may be missed.

Baseball Records Second to None

One of the most important Major League Baseball (MLB) record that will never be broken is that of Cy Young's, a player with 511 wins. The record spanned across the 1890s and the next closest player today is Walter Johnson at 417 wins. Moreover, Ty Cobb has the highest batting average of .366. Till date no one has come even close to him, the highest average being .344 by Tedd Williams who retired way back in 1960. Rogers Hornsby's baseball record of highest batting average at .424 in a season still stands and is one of those records which can't be broken. The last player to reach an average of .400 in a season was Ted Williams in 1941.

Unmatched NFL Records

In the history of National Football League (NFL) till date, William Beattie Feathers holds the record for rushing for more than 1000 yards at a stretch. This record would hold as no player in the last 65 years has rushed more than 3 yards at an average. Moreover, today players tackle each other and try to get possession of the ball as soon as possible. One of the other football records that will never be broken is the record that was set by George Halas who remained coach of the same team for 40 years. This record would stay as coaches today don't stay for long in a particular team. Moreover, coaches don't stay due to insecurity, workload and a lot of pressure associated with the game.

Steadfast NBA Records

One National Basketball Association (NBA) record which would not be broken is the one which was set by Wilt Chamberlain. He scored at 50.4 points in each game in the 1961-62 season. Today the best players in the game scores just below 40 points in each game. In the same season he recorded 50+ points in 45 games, a record of all times.

The 10 Sports Records of the First Waters

The top 10 sports records which are unlikely to be ever broken includes:
  • Dixie Dean's 60 goals for Everton that too in 36 games during the First Division season of 1927-28 in England.
  • Pele's, the great Brazilian soccer player's, 1280 career goals in 1363 games. However, this figure includes all goals he scored in non-competitive club matches as well.
  • Rocky Marciano's unbeaten string of 49 games, which saw him being undefeated throughout his career in heavyweight boxing.
  • Michael Schumacher's 7 championship titles in F1 driving. Moreover, his feat of 85 race wins in his career is unlikely to be broken anytime soon.
  • Margaret Court has won 62 titles in tennis and this number is of Grand Slam title she has won (19 mixed doubles, 19 doubles and 24 singles titles).
  • At an average of 99.94 runs scored in every game, cricket legend Don Bradman, the great Australian batsman's record is set to stay forever.
  • Byron Nelson winning streak of 11 consecutive PGA tour titles in golf. Moreover, in his career he has won 18 titles which is also unlikely to be broken.
  • In his career in Ice Hockey, Wayne Gretzky amassed 2,857 points with 894 goals and 1,963 assists, another long-standing NHL record that remains stiff to-day.
  • The 16 titles won by the great Squash Heather McKay, where she never lost a single game. This record too is unlikely to be not only broken but also coming close to.
  • The seven wins by Frankie Dettori of which 3 wins came in a single meeting.
So these were the records that will never be broken, but you never know what will ever happen in future, so keep your fingers crossed and see if these would ever be broken in our lifetime. Once again I would like to mention, this is not an exhaustive list and there are several other record holders in every game.
