Rebirthing Therapy

Most of you would have heard about what the rebirthing therapy is. Well, if you haven't, read this article for more information on this useful therapy.
To start with the definition of rebirthing therapy, it is known to be a breathing technique which can prove very helpful in controlling negative emotions like fear, anger and sadness. It is a simple yet effective and powerful technique which is done consciously. Rebirthing therapy is one such exercise which can be used as alternative medicine and in psychotherapy for disturbed people. The individuals to whom this therapy is advised are usually sufferers of some traumatic event, due to which they cannot get over the emotional trauma.

The basic idea of this therapy is that the individual is put through an entire process of second birth, where he/she is subjected to some crucial situations and the person has to battle them physically. This process, gives a person the strength to fight the mental trauma that he/she is going through and release one self consciously. Thus, in the coming up paragraphs, you will read about how this therapy works for stress management.

Rebirthing Techniques

According to the rebirthing therapy, the process for birth is one of the most traumatic events in a baby's life, as it is a very long and strenuous process of fighting its way through the womb of the mother. When a person goes through this exact process one more time in his/her life, it gives that individual motivation to fight a certain traumatic situation where he/she is trapped. There are many ways of using this rebirthing therapy depending on personal choices. However, it is only effective if a person makes a conscious effort to make a change. These are mentioned in the paragraphs below, so read on and find out if you are in search for something like rebirthing therapy.

Rebirthing Breathwork
As breathing is always a very peaceful and liberating exercise which we usually use when we want to control our thoughts and actions, it is used in this process as well. Rebirthing breathwork is a term used, when the person undergoing rebirthing therapy concentrates on his own breathing, which is inhaling and exhaling continuously without a break. This breathing exercise was coined by Leonard Orr and Sondra Ray in 1960.

The practice put forward by them is very similar to yoga (pranayama), where there is conscious regulation of one's breathing patterns. However, yoga has been used for millions of years and still proves to be effective, whereas the rebirthing breathwork therapy has very limited effectiveness. This is because, yoga needs continuous practice and can be mastered with peace of mind, but in rebirthing the procedure is very sudden and is done under the supervision of a guide or a rebirther.

Attachment Therapy
Unlike the first rebirthing therapy technique mentioned above, there are some other techniques which are not self-guided. This therapy is also known as the "second birth" where there are many other sub-therapies induced on the trauma patient. A few of these are compression therapy, holding-nurturing or cuddle time therapy.
  • For children who are suffering from attachment disorders with their parents, foster parents, or any other individual, they are advised the cuddle time therapy. In this therapy, the patient is held very close to another person's body, usually the mother's, so that the lost connection is rebuilt between the patient and the person.
  • The second one, compression therapy is however, not a very advised rebirthing process because of a few negative events. Here, the patient is wrapped in pieces of cloth or blankets and pressured by other people. This is an exact repetition of the second birth process, where the person is supposed to breakthrough the darkness in the "birth canal" and find his/her way out. But this has often resulted in suffocation of the patient, thus is not advised at all.
Now, that you know what the rebirthing therapy is, you too can make your choice and pick the one you think will be more useful to you. However, other than the breathing exercise, do not carry any other therapy without guidance.
