Rebel flag tattoos have been popular for a very long tome. Most of the people who get themselves this tattoo design often belong to the South and are proud of their Southern heritage. For a number of people, getting inked with the image of this flag, also known as the Confederate Flag , is a great way of showing their pride about their place of origin. The Confederate flag is also known as the battle flag. However, for some, this tattoo is also a matter of the shameful reminder of slavery, serfdom, segregation and American Civil War. A number of people also look at these tattoos as a symbol of States' rights, pride and independence. The design of this flag is a blue X which has white stars within the cross. It became very popular after it was depicted in a Hollywood motion picture 'Dukes of Hazzard', where it was painted on the top of the car's roof. Confederate flag tattoo ideas are many. Let's see some of them.

Rebel Flag Tattoo Designs

Traditionally a Confederate flag motif is simple in design but these days you will come across a lot of embellishment on these tattoos. Common patterns which are used with the flag tattoo design include skull and crossbones over the top of the flag. The other variation is the use of word 'rebel' near the flag. A rather patriotic iconography has a bald eagle flying across the flag or over the top of the flag. Racist tattoos sporting this flag are those which use the words 'Southern Justice' on them with or without a noose.

If you are biker and want to get inked with a Confederate flag then you can also include the design of a motorcycle in the tattoo design. Another very commonly used tattoo design is flames surrounding the flag which illustrates the 'fire' of pride in one's Southern origin. Another option is to get your own name or the name of your loved one(s) inked across the face of the flag. You can also use your creativity to design your own tattoo. I have come across heart tattoo designs which have rebel flag motifs running across them. The flag can also be drawn along with the Grim Reaper. Some people also choose to have their flag tattoo along with an anchor symbol.

In this flag tattoo, blue color is given a lot of importance. It is rare that you will come a rebel flag tattoo which does not have blue in it. When you are choosing your tattoo iconography and accompanying embellishment, you will have to be very careful. There are chances that your tattoo can be mistaken for a racially motivated or hateful image. If you are sure you want a Confederate flag tattoo, then you will have to take care that you do not hurt the sentiments of any one with your tattoo design. The other option is to have the tattoo made on a place which is not easily visible as it may not be taken in a good humor by the African-American community.

We can see that rebel flag tattoos are as diverse as people can be. However, since it is a controversial image, you will want to think about the consequences of the image before you get it inked on your body. You should also not forget that tattoo removal is a painful process. So, it is better to think twice before you get yourself the tattoo. However, if you are sure you want the tattoo, then, by all means, go ahead and flaunt the Southern pride!
