Rebecca - Chapter 4

Chapter 4 for y'all!!
Heyy, sorry I haven't put chapter 4 until now but if you live in England you'll know it's been snowing like crazy, so I haven't had chance to get anything done, but I've finally finished the chapter and here it is. Hope you enjoy it =]

Chapter 4

A tall, coffee-colored woman walked on stage, clad a skin- tight red dress and black stilettos. A few wolf-whistles and cheers erupted from the audience. Aaron looked over and saw a group of teenagers around his age sat in the corner. They were leering at the woman and talking quietly amongst themselves, more than likely about the pretty female on stage. Rebecca also looked over to the table full of hormone-driven boys.
'Looks like they brought the whole cavalry tonight', she spoke mysteriously.
'Huh?' Aaron asked.

'That guy, over there, with the blonde hair and tribal tattoo. That's Lee. We used to date when I first moved here but, well in plain English, he was a dick. The rest of them are sort of like his crew. Basically he just bosses them about and gets them to do his dirty work. Usually he doesn't go to places like this with them all. A lot of people are out to get him so he often keeps low profile. I don't get what they're doing here though.'

Aaron looked over at them again, taking in Lee properly for the first time. He was well-built, with a strong jaw and a mouth that always seemed to be set in a frown. He sat behind the others, arms folded as he surveyed the area. Aaron didn't like the look of him, but couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy towards him, knowing that Rebecca had dated him.
'Maybe they have something planned for after the show', Aaron replied, his eyes still on the group.

'Mmmm', she replied in an absent- minded way, her focus back on the woman who was now singing on stage. Her voice was sweet and high and filled the air completely. Neither of them had actually realized they had missed the introduction and the first song; their focus had been entirely on the group. Now Rebecca rested her head on Aarons shoulder and shuffled around until she was comfortable. She looked up at him and gave him a grin, which he returned with his own. They sat in comfortable silence after that and enjoyed the rest of the show.

'That was just.....well....amazing', Aaron told Rebecca as they were walking out of the door,' I forgot how emotional her songs were.'
'I didn't', Rebecca replied quietly. Aaron looked over at her, concern filling his eyes. He saw that she was crying, again, tears falling softly down her cheeks.
'Oh Rebecca', Aaron said softly, pulling her into his arms, for what must have been the millionth time that night. It was like the first time all over again though, the same feelings rushed through him, making him dizzy with exhilaration. She held onto him, sobbing softly into his shoulder. They stood like that for a while, long after Rebecca's tears had stopped falling. Neither of them knew why they did, but both of them knew it felt right. A little while later, the two of them parted, somewhat unwillingly, and continued on. Rebecca reached for his hand and placed it round her waist as they walked.

'Do you want to come in for a bit?' Rebecca asked Aaron when they'd reached her front door. He was surprised to find, she only lived a few streets away from him, considering he'd never noticed her before.
'Yeah, sure....I didn't know you lived so close to me, Aaron commented as he stood under the porch light.
'Do I?' she asked.
'Yeah, I live like three streets away from you,' Aaron smiled at the fact that her confusion was as sincere as his own. He'd have hated to find out that she'd known they were so close and he didn't.

'Hmm. Who'd have figured?' was all she said as she unlocked the door and let him inside. Aaron was greeted with a long winding staircase that led to the landing, painted in a pastel blue color. It had been left open, with a glass balcony lining where the wall should have been. Watercolors hung everywhere, of different scenes, from seagulls flying over the bay, to a woman sat looking out of a café window at the world below her.
'Did you paint these?' Aaron asked, peering at the latter painting more closely. He could see that a lot of care had been put into it.

'Yeah, I did. They were done a long time ago though. I haven't painted for quite a while,' Rebecca called from the living room. Aaron walked in and sat on the chocolate-colored sofa next to her. He swung his arm loosely over the back and Rebecca sidled a little closer to him.
'They're really good. Have you considered taking it up again?'
'Now and again, but I never get round to it.'
'You should.' This time Aaron was the one who moved, closing the gap between them. He put his hand on her leg gently and looked at her to check it was okay. She was smiling at him widely, excitement shining in her big blue eyes.

'Maybe I will', she spoke breathlessly. Aaron could feel heat radiating from the place where his hand was on her leg, very much like the feeling he'd gotten when she'd touched his hand that day in the bar. It was hard to believe that their first encounter had occurred only three days ago, and now here they both were sat on her sofa, breaths held in anticipation for the events that might unfold. A small, almost minute, part of Aaron still held onto the idea that this was supposed to be a bet, but the bigger part of him was almost screaming at him that it wasn't, and he agreed with that part of him. He still couldn't figure out what it was about Rebecca, but something about her captivated him. He was still determined to figure out what it was, one way or another.

'Tell me something interesting about yourself', Rebecca spoke suddenly, breaking off Aaron's train of thought. Where it was headed, it hadn't involved a lot of speaking. In a way, Aaron was glad for the distraction, his thoughts had been getting very hazy at a very interesting moment....
'Ummm....what do you want to know?' he asked uncertainly.
'Anything. Something interesting.,' she replied, a mischievous smile playing across her lips.
Aaron had to think about that for a moment. He didn't really have anything interesting about himself, and he was sure as hell whatever he said wouldn't impress Rebecca. He stayed silent for a while, racking his brain for something that would intrigue Rebecca, even remotely.

'Well...I hate peas', he said nervously. She laughed and shook her head incredulously.
'I mean something you've never told anyone before.'
Suddenly, he knew exactly what to tell her. He knew just the right words to say that would, hopefully, make her catch her breath. Stump her, even for a second, because he knew that was what she was looking for. He knew she wanted the unexpected, and he knew exactly how he could give her that. He took both her hands in his and looked directly into her eyes before telling her something that, had he told anyone else, they would have asked if he was feeling alright and took his temperature.

'Something I have never told anyone before and I mean not even my brother, who I'm closer to than anyone else in the world, is that I think I'm falling for you. I don't know how it happened, or why it happened. All I know is you're on my mind twenty-four hours a day, and I like it. I like everything about you, even down to your weird way of making me feel on edge and incredibly nervous. I think you're amazing and I want to know you more', and with that he took a deep breath and waited for her reaction expectantly.
She was silent for a long time. It wasn't an uncomfortable silence, it was just a case of she was thinking of what to say. He'd done exactly what she'd wanted him too, though she'd never thought he could do it. Finally she spoke.
'Well, I certainly wasn't expecting that,' she answer, smiling widely. Then she leant over to him, and kissed him, indicating that, for now, the talking was over.
