Ragdoll Cat Personality

Ragdoll cats are obedient, gentle and submissive. These cats resemble a 'ragdoll' in the sense that they relax and completely fall on the owner, when they are picked up. They have a large muscular body; the weight of the male cat can be up to 20 pounds and the female cat weighs up to 15 pounds. Ragdoll cats come in different colors such as red, blue, cream, chocolate, lilac and seal. They have blue eyes and a soft and velvety coat, which does not lose its shine and hence requires very little maintenance. These cats are distinctly different from other breeds of cat. Great Companions
Ragdoll cats are social, happily spend time in the house of the owner and rarely wander out on their own. They love being with the owner, they yearn for attention and enjoy the company of people. They love being embraced by people and often snuggle up in their lap. They enjoy following their owners and doing what they are doing. Not only do they like people, but they also like other cats and other pets, including dogs. In fact, they even like strangers! They are extremely accommodating and make an obedient pet.

Indoor Cats
They are meant to be indoor cats due to their laid back and passive nature. They are not aggressive and cannot protect themselves if they are attacked. They lack the street smart ways of other cats. Moreover, they trust people easily, which is why it is very dangerous to leave them without supervision. This can be seen from the fact that they limp when you hold them, even when they barely know you. Also their love for water is what makes them an indoor pet.

Water Lovers
Another interesting and slightly queer personality trait of this breed of cat is their captivation for water. They love the sound of running water and jump in water, whenever they see it. Then be it the kitchen sink, bathtub or a swimming pool. They can play in the water for hours. Do not leave them alone, or else they might end up drowning in a water body. This is another one of its quality that sets it apart from other breeds of cat. Normally, cats are known to hate water. But, this one can't get enough of water!

Accommodating and Obedient
Ragdoll cats are also extremely docile, which makes them a great pet for families with children. They play without using their claws. They have a soft voice and play without being aggressive or destructive. They are also extremely obedient and affectionate. They like fetching things and learning new tricks. They will follow you to the door and will greet strangers, if asked to. Being so well behaved, they make ideal pets for families, singles and people getting a pet for the first time. They are sweet, friendly, agreeable, calm and easy going. They make a wonderful pet for anyone looking for a gentle companion to cuddle with. They make more of a friend than a pet. If you do not like your pet following you around all the time, then this one is definitely not for you. Being followed all day may get annoying for you. However, the ragdoll can blissfully spend its days purring in your lap.

One must remember that despite all that is said about their laid back nature and ability to adjust with any pet, each ragdoll has its own personality. They may not like to socialize with certain animals. Do not expect each ragdoll cat to have these standard personality traits and features. It is the distinct personality traits of our pet, that is their most endearing quality.
