How to Flush a Car Radiator

The radiator of any vehicle is the most important part as it helps in the process of cooling. Flushing of the radiator of any vehicle should be done regularly after every six months. This will help in the maintenance of the radiator, avoid its leakage and will also prevent all kinds of damages. It will help in efficient functioning of the radiator flush as well. How to go about it then? Well, below I have assumed that the flushing will be performed on the car radiator flush.

Flushing a Car Radiator

• The materials you will require for car radiator flush are an engine cover or a blanket, a tub for drainage or a plastic tray, cold water, water hose and radiator flush coolant.
• Before you start with the actual process of car radiator flush, make sure that you turn off the engine and allow it to cool to a normal temperature. Cover whole off the engine, leaving the radiator, with a blanket. This will keep the other components safe from water.
• Allow the engine to cool completely and then remove the radiator cap.
• If the hoses appear to be brittle and they contain excessive moisture, it indicates their damage. Hence, do get them repaired immediately.
• There must be some amount of liquid present inside the radiator. Drain that liquid in a tub or a plastic tray. If the liquid is clean, then it indicates that the exterior of the radiator is free from any kind of damage or rust. If it is unclean, then check the exterior and do the required cleaning.
• With the help of the hose, flush the radiator with cold water. Allow the water to overflow the radiator. This will ensure that the radiator will be cleaned thoroughly. Make sure that all the sides and the parts of the radiator are cleaned well.
• To the engine cooling jacket, attach the garden hose which will again perform the cleaning.
• Allow the water to drain completely and then replace all the hoses and also the bottom radiator cap.
• The next step in the process of car radiator flush is to add coolant to the radiator. Make sure that the amount of coolant added does not exceed or is less than specified by the manufacturer.
• Screw back the top radiator cap.
• Now, remove the engine cover, ignite the engine and check if there are any leaks. If no coolant is present beneath the car after starting the engine, then you have successfully flushed the radiator. Now, you can take your vehicle for a drive. After you come back from the drive, check if the cooling system is working efficiently and after the engine has cooled down, also check for the level of the coolant. This will help you to know if it further needs topping up.

The above mentioned method can be used for flushing any vehicle radiator. Some people also make use of radiator flush machine for the above purpose. The above method is basically used for cleaning and flushing of non sealed systems.
